Job summary

AFL Integria is hiring a Lineman to support the safe and efficient installation of underground and aerial fibre optic cable infrastructure. This role involves cable placement, duct preparation, equipment operation, field documentation, and adherence to safety, quality, and client requirements.

Under the Cable Installation Manager, the Lineman provides manual labour for construction field service crews, reads drawings, determines cable lengths, and ensures accurate reporting.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year of construction experience required.
  • Capable of working in all temperatures and climates and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to travel to various site-based projects if required.

Responsibilities

  • Pull, place, and install fibre optic cable through underground ducts, conduits, manholes, vaults, handholes, and other underground structures.
  • Set up, inspect, and operate cable-pulling equipment, including winches, rollers, sheaves, capstans, and related placement tools.
  • Perform hand and mechanical cable pulls while maintaining required pulling tension, minimum bend radius, and cable-handling standards.
  • Complete conduit rodding, duct proofing, duct cleaning, mule tape installation, and other duct-preparation activities.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, plans, work packages, and project specifications.
  • Maintain accurate cable footage records, production reports, daily work reports, timesheets, and other required project documentation.

We are hiring a Lineman to support the safe and efficient installation of underground and aerial fibre optic cable infrastructure. This role involves cable placement, duct preparation, equipment operation, field documentation, and adherence to all safety, quality, and client requirements.

Under the general direction of the Cable Installation Manager, the Lineman is responsible for providing manual labour to construction field service crews. The Lineman is responsible for supporting the safe and efficient installation of underground and aerial fibre optic cable infrastructure. This role operates cable-placement equipment, prepares duct systems, installs cable and associated hardware, completes required documentation, and follows all AFL environmental, health, safety, quality, and client requirements

Responsibilities
  • Pull, place, and install fibre optic cable through underground ducts, conduits, manholes, vaults, handholes, and other underground structures.
  • Set up, inspect, and operate cable-pulling equipment, including winches, rollers, sheaves, capstans, and related placement tools.
  • Perform hand and mechanical cable pulls while maintaining required pulling tension, minimum bend radius, and cable-handling standards.
  • Complete conduit rodding, duct proofing, duct cleaning, mule tape installation, and other duct-preparation activities.
  • Identify, report, and assist in resolving blocked, damaged, obstructed, or otherwise unsuitable ducts.
  • Properly coil, rack, label, secure, and protect fibre cable within underground structures.
  • Assist with aerial cable installation, including placing fibre cables, multiports, spiderweb or PSP cables, and associated equipment.
  • Lash cable and multiports to strand using a lasher, ensuring all work meets applicable installation standards.
  • Install aerial hardware, including strand, anchors, bolts, and related pole-mounted equipment.
  • Assist with hanging strand and fibre cable using a boom truck and/or through pole-climbing activities, where trained, authorized, and required.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, plans, work packages, and project specifications.
  • Determine cable lengths, complete pre-construction documentation, and obtain required reporting and signoffs.
  • Prepare, update, and submit redline drawings to accurately reflect completed work and field changes.
  • Maintain accurate cable footage records, production reports, daily work reports, timesheets, and other required project documentation.
  • Identify existing utilities and safely work around underground and overhead infrastructure.
  • Establish and maintain safe work zones, including compliance with traffic-control requirements.
  • Operate company vehicles, trailers, tools, and equipment safely and responsibly.
  • When appropriately licensed, trained, and authorized, operate construction equipment required to complete assigned work.
  • Understand the safe operation and basic functionality of bucket trucks and related aerial equipment.
  • Clean, inspect, and maintain assigned company vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional worksite.
  • Protect confidential company, client, and project information.
  • Take ownership of assigned work, contribute to team success, and identify opportunities to improve work quality and efficiency.
  • Adhere to and promote AFL’s environmental, health, safety, and quality policies, project specifications, and applicable regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, directed, or required.
