Job summary

Job Description

Canadian Lynden Transport is looking for a driver for tractor and trailer combination or straight truck to transport cargo freight. May pickup, load, unload and deliver cargo freight.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Drive vehicle to specified destination in accordance with company procedures and governmental regulations.
  • Maintain telephone/radio contact with dispatcher to receive pick‑up or delivery instructions.
  • Load and unload trailer with or without mechanical freight‑handling equipment. Ensure load stability using cargo straps, tarps, ropes, chains, lumber and other tools. Perform lifting, pulling, pushing and carrying of freight.
  • Hook and unhook trailers from tractor.
  • Inspect tractor or truck for defects before, during and after trips and submit reports indicating condition of equipment items such as tires, lights, brakes, fuel, oil and water. Install and remove tire chains as required.
  • Ensure that all shipping documents (manifest, bills of lading, delivery receipts, hazardous material placarding, etc.) are available and complete.
  • Perform duties in compliance with company policies, procedures and all Federal, State, and local regulations for safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle.
  • Maintain required records, including driver logs, vehicle inspections, and other reports.
  • Report any safety hazards, accidents or injuries immediately to supervisor.
  • Demonstrate dependable and consistent attendance.
Qualifications
  • Current, valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class 1).
  • Minimum 2 years flatbed hauling experience and clean abstract.
  • Ability to install and remove 60‑lb tire chains in inclement weather.
  • Ability to pass a drug test and cross the U.S./Canada border.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as hazardous materials shipping regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and present information to managers, customers and the general public.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to work with others and independently handle a variety of tasks.
  • Physical strength to lift up to 75 lbs.; ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crawl, crouch, examine equipment and cargo, and conduct telephone communication.
  • Experience working in outside weather conditions and near moving mechanical parts; tolerance of moderate noise level.
Language Skills

Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals and shipping documents. Speak effectively to customers and/or employees.

Reasoning Ability

Define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and apply common sense to detailed instructions. Deal with problems involving few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands

Sit, talk, hear, handle objects, tools or controls; reach with arms; use hands and fingers; occasionally lift or move up to 25 lbs. Close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus required.

Work Environment

Moderate noise level, frequent outdoor work conditions. Ability to handle exposure to fumes, airborne particles and vibration.
