Salary Grade: Hiring Range, Limited Term Faculty Member - Academic Associate - Communication & Media Studies - ($78,000 - $93,000). Final base salary will reflect individual candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Course Name and Number: SSCI 1050U/ENGR 1050U - consolidated from COMM 1050U and SSCI 1470U to support CEAB/program review recommendations. The position will also deliver ENGR 5201G – Communications and Ethics within FEAS

The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science and the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities invite applications from qualified individuals for an Academic Associate [limited term for one year with the possibility of renewal] position in the fields of Engineering Communications and Impacts of Technology. This position reports to both the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science and the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. This position is subject to budgetary approval, and would start on September 1, 2026, or as soon as it is filled.

The candidate should possess a PhD and extensive teaching experience and/or equivalent professional community teaching experience, in a relevant field including but not limited to Engineering Communication, Technical Writing, Communication, English, Organizational Communication, Education, or cognate disciplines. The candidate should also have experience managing teaching assistants and/or peer mentors, developing pedagogical materials for undergraduate and graduate students, and demonstrating strong facilitation and presentation skills for both in-person and online classrooms. Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), or eligibility for registration in Ontario or another Canadian province, is considered an asset.

The candidate should be able to provide an established record of excellence in teaching at the university level, as demonstrated through a fulsome teaching dossier of syllabi, assignments, and personal reflections. In addition, candidates should possess outstanding English language skills demonstrating an ability to ensure strong, timely, two-way communications on an ongoing basis that contribute to collaborative/collegial relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the community at large.

Candidate interviews will be conducted online and short-listed candidates will be invited to present their course syllabus for ENGR 1050U Engineering Communications and Technology Impacts including a major assignment for students in the course. This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the UOIT Faculty Association and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and the UOIT Faculty AssociationUOIT Faculty Association collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and annual salary increases are administered as per the terms outlined in the collective agreement.
