Job summary

Earls Kitchen + Bar in Vancouver, BC, is seeking a hands-on Lighting Designer to join the Store Development team. You will conceptualize and execute lighting across diverse projects, coordinating with architects, consultants, and contractors to meet Earls’ standards.

You will design, commission, and calibrate building lighting and control systems (Lutron/Crestron), travel across North America for site visits, and mentor junior designers while managing multiple projects.

Qualifications

  • 3-8 years of work experience in Lighting-specific roles. Hospitality design is preferred.
  • Professional certification from Accredited Programs is preferred.
  • Experience managing third-party vendors and onsite contractors.
  • Experience managing budgets, schedules & multiple projects.
  • Deep understanding of LED fixtures & general lighting performance (CCT, Lux & Lumen outputs).
  • Proficiency in programming lighting control & dimming systems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Google software & budget management tools (preference for Smartsheet).
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple project timelines and equipment inventories.
  • Quick thinking to resolve technical challenges during onsite installations.
  • Ability to manage and execute multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Experience producing high-quality contract documents & construction drawings.
  • Ability to travel throughout North America in support of projects, site visits, and openings.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with external consultants to develop comprehensive lighting concepts and plans that align with project budget, goals, and technical standards.
  • Utilize CAD, SketchUp, and photometric data to accurately represent lighting design needs.
  • Responsible for ensuring the completion of commissioning of lighting and building control systems to Earls specifications & standards. (e.g., Lutron & Crestron).
  • Responsible for attending after-hours installs and commissioning as needed for project execution to calibrate lumen level & program complex time of day schedules within the building control systems.
  • Support the project team with troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Accountable for the thorough review of shop drawings & submittals to ensure accurate procurement.
  • Manage relationships with lighting manufacturers, suppliers & consultants.
  • Coordinate with custom lighting vendors to conceptualize custom light designs.
  • Develop detailed lighting & scoping plans to accurately reflect intent.
  • Responsible for project documentation and administration to ensure accurate records are maintained.
  • Ability to travel throughout North America in support of projects, site visits, and openings.

Earls Kitchen + Bar is seeking a detail-oriented Lighting Designer to join our Store Development team in Vancouver, BC. This role is responsible for the conceptualization and execution of lighting across various projects, ensuring all elements are delivered to meet Earls’ high standards.

The Lighting Designer focuses on bridging the gap between lighting design and technical execution. This role requires a professional who can manage the coordination of complex building control systems, ensuring that creative vision aligns with functional requirements and brand specifications.

Working closely with Project Managers, trades, and consultants, the Lighting Designer plays a key role in ensuring that all lighting projects are executed seamlessly. This collaboration is essential to maintaining the high quality of lighting across all Earls locations.

Role Responsibilities
Design & Execution

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Project Ownership
  • Liaise with Architects, Designers, Consultants & Contractors to coordinate project needs.
  • Present project work to stakeholders for approval. Provide regular project updates to leadership, identifying potential risks and proposing mitigation strategies. Strong verbal and written communication skills for presenting complex technical data to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Mentor & develop designers on lighting design & technical knowledge.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously from inception to completion.
