Job summary

Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club in Vancouver is seeking part-time seasonal lifeguards and swimming instructors for Fall 2026. You will supervise the pool, enforce rules, and deliver lessons to members of all ages in various formats.

Eligible candidates hold current lifeguarding and Swim for Life instruction certifications; experience and strong communication are valued. Shifts are 2–5 hours, weekdays and weekends, rain or shine.

Qualifications

• All certifications must remain current to work as lifeguard/instructor.
• Minimum 1 year lifeguarding/instructing experience.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Lifeguard duties: ensure safety, enforce pool rules, control environment.

Overview

The Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club (the Club) is the city’s premier racquets, fitness, and social Club. Located just a few minutes from downtown, the Club offers tennis, badminton, squash, fitness and aquatics programming for over 4,000 members, along with social events with upscale-casual dining in 3 restaurants.

We are recruiting for Part-Time Seasonal Lifeguards/Swimming Instructors to join our team for the Fall 2026 season (September–December). Some summer shifts may also be available.

Start Date: August 4, 2026

Wage is $21.00 to $25.00 per hour based on experience.

All aquatics team members are required to have both lifeguarding and swim instructor certifications. Due to the size of our pool, there are times that we operate with one lifeguard on duty at a time. You will provide supervision, prevention of injury and rules enforcement for the pool area and will act as the first aid attendant for our busy, multi-sport facility. You will provide safe, fun and effective swimming lessons for members of all ages and abilities from infants to adults in group, semi-private, and private lessons.

Successful candidates will be available for a minimum of one weekday and one weekend shift between September 8 – December 20. Shifts range in length from 2–5 hours between 2–8 pm Monday - Friday and 9 am – 8 pm Saturday and Sunday. We have a heated outdoor pool. You must be comfortable working in all weather conditions. Lifeguard shifts and swimming lessons run rain or shine. Successful candidates may be required to complete a wet screen.

Responsibilities

Lifeguard:

• Use skills learned in NLS to provide a safe environment for all members
• Strictly but courteously enforce all pool/club rules and regulations
• Control the pool environment to prevent accidents
• Perform daily maintenance tasks as required to keep pool and pool area clean and tidy
• Be a confident first aid responder for accidents at the pool and all areas of the Club

Swimming Instructor:

• Use skills learned in Swim for Life course to teach swim lessons to all levels in a fun and safe environment
• Evaluate students to assess the correct level
• Adapt lesson plans to effectively meet the needs of all swimmers
• Prepare lesson plans and participate fully in classes with students
• Maintain accurate and thorough records and communicate confidently with parents, participants, and the Aquatics Coordinator

Qualifications and Competencies

All certifications must remain current or lifeguards/instructors will not be permitted to work.

• NLS
• CPR-C/AED
• Standard First Aid
• Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor
• Life Saving Instructor (not required but is an asset)
• A minimum of 1 year lifeguarding/instructing experience
• Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly and confidently
• Customer service focus: the ability to maintain professionalism under pressure with members and peers
• Pro-active and self-motivated; the ability to remain engaged and alert in a repetitive environment
• Calm, quick thinking and solution-oriented
• Proven ability to work autonomously while maintaining a collaborative, team focus
• Successful completion of a Police Information Check
