Job summary

Regional District of Nanaimo is seeking two permanent part-time Lifeguard/Instructor Level 2 positions within Aquatic Services. The incumbents will help operate Ravensong Aquatic Centre, provide aquatic program services, and support the Recreation Department in achieving its goals.

Duties include assisting teammates and working evenings/weekends as needed. Applicants must have the National Lifeguard Award (Pool Option), Lifesaving Society Instructor Certification, CPR Basic Rescuer or CPR C &

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Regional District of Nanaimo is seeking two permanent part-time Lifeguard/Instructor Level 2 positions with Aquatic Services.

The Lifeguard/Instructor contributes to the effective operation of the District 69 Recreation Department through the provision of aquatic program services and the operation of the Ravensong Aquatic Centre. This position supports the Recreation Department by assisting team members in their duties, as required, to meet service expectations, departmental goals and objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications include high school graduation, with one (1) to three (3) years of pool/aquatic related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Applicants must possess and maintain the following certifications:

• National Lifeguard Award (Pool Option)
• Lifesaving Society (Swim for Life) Instructor Certification
• CPR Certification - Basic Rescuer or CPR “C” & AED
• Recognized First Aid Certification/WorkSafeBC Equivalency
• 1000 hours at Ravensong Aquatic Centre or another aquatic centre or a combination thereof
• Pool Operator (Level 1)
• And any one of the following: Lifesaving Instructor, Aquafit Certification (BCRPA Aquafit, CALA Aquafit Instructor), National Lifeguard Service Instructor, Lifesaving Learn to Swim Instructor Trainer, or First Aid Instructor

POSITION DETAILS

This is a permanent part-time Union position with varied hours of work including evenings and weekends. The (2026) rate of pay is $30.54. The position offers an attractive benefits package as provided within the collective agreement between the Regional District of Nanaimo and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 401.
