Job summary

The Jewish Community Centre (JCC) in Toronto seeks a part-time Lifeguard/Swim Instructor to ensure swimmer safety and deliver engaging lessons. This dual role combines vigilance with teaching across ages and abilities in a vibrant community setting.

Ideal candidates hold NL and Instructor certifications, standard first aid, CPR-C/AED, and are comfortable creating lesson plans, maintaining records, and promoting inclusive, fun water activities.

Qualifications

• Must hold Lifesaving Society NL and Instructor certifications in good standing.
• First aid and CPR-C/AED valid throughout employment.
• Pass Vulnerable Sector Screening as required.

Responsibilities

• Provide vigilant lifeguard supervision and safe swim instruction.
• Prepare lesson plans and write progress reports for participants.
• Engage with members and families to promote water safety.
• Maintain accurate incident records and daily pool procedures.
• Deliver first aid when needed and coordinate with emergency services.

PJCC LIFEGUARD & SWIM INSTRUCTOR

Job Type: Part-time (up to 24 hours per week) Wage: $21.00-$23.00/hour

Role Summary:

We're looking for a passionate and responsible Lifeguard/Swim Instructor to join our team! In this dual role, you'll ensure the safety of all swimmers by maintaining vigilant supervision of aquatic areas, while also delivering engaging, skill-based swim lessons for all ages and abilities. Ideal candidates are energetic, confident in the water, and committed to creating a safe, inclusive, fun environment. Key Responsibilities:

• Provides good customer service and engages with members, guests and students, promoting water safety and being a positive representative of the JCC, encouraging continued engagement
• Ensures compliance and controls in lifeguarding and swim instructor functions
• Fosters positive parent and participant relationships, follows up on questions promptly and courteously
• Prepares lesson plans for each class, and writing report cards for all lesson participants
• Maintains complete and accurate records of incidents and accidents, swimming occurrences, daily maintenance, opening and closing procedures, and follows up in a timely manner with appropriate action
• Provide first aid care and treatment as required for all minor and major incidents until the arrival of emergency services
• Maintains constant surveillance creating a safe, supervised pool area, vigilant to minimize risks
• Maintains and cleans pool areas, washrooms, changerooms, etc.

Qualifications:

• Must hold a current and valid Lifesaving Society's National Lifeguard Certification AND Instructor certification; certifications must be kept valid throughout employment.
• Valid Standard First Aid & CPR-C/AED Certification.
• Strong understanding and adherence to all legislated requirements, policies and procedures, including emergency procedures and health and safety standards.
• Models and practices HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Childhood Development.
• Ability to pass a Vulnerable Sector Screening through Regional Police.
• Applicants must be at least 15 years of age.
• Experience with various age groups and children with special needs considered a strong asset.
