Job summary

The Meadows Home for Special Care in Nova Scotia seeks a licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to care for Residents around the clock, addressing medical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs. You will lead and mentor CCA/LPN staff and work with the neighborhood team to deliver resident-centered care.

Responsibilities include medication administration, nursing care for the elderly, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team while maintaining quality standards and policies.

Qualifications

  • Must be a licensed LPN currently registered in Nova Scotia.
  • Minimum 6 months experience administering meds preferred.
  • 6 months nursing experience with good judgment and leadership demonstrated preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with residents and lead staff.
  • Experience with elderly residents including Alzheimer's/dementias preferred.
  • Pharmacology training through LPN Core Program or approved post-graduate course.
  • Organized with ability to work independently and within scope of practice.
  • CPR certification and related courses required or willing to obtain.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and coach staff.
  • Reliable and available for shifts.
  • May care for facility pets as part of the care team.
  • Ability to use computers and prioritize in a busy environment.

Job description

The Meadows is a 105 bed Long Term Care Facility that is undergoing an exciting transformation in creating empowered neighborhood teams that focus on principles of resident centered care. The primary purpose of the position is to serve the Residents by attending to their medical needs and ensuring their physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs are met, throughout the day and night and to provide leadership, guiding and teaching to other roles (CCA/LPN) and work collaboratively with neighborhood team members.


The LPN will perform duties in accordance with the Mission Statement, Standards, Policies and Procedures of The Meadows (TVM). The position requires the successful candidate to be available for all shifts – days, nights, weekends and holidays and call-in’s. While our mask and Covid vaccination mandates have been lifted, you may be required to wear a mask for the duration of a shift in the event of an outbreak. The Meadows is a member of the HANS group benefits plan and NSHEPP pension plan. This position is part of the CUPE Bargaining Unit.


QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Minimum requirement – LPN currently licensed in the Province of Nova Scotia

  • Preferred Minimum 6 months recent relevant experience administering meds required.

  • Preferred Minimum 6 months nursing experience required where good nursing judgment and skills and leadership abilities have been demonstrated.

  • Demonstrated sincere willingness and passion to engage and participate with those who live in our home and lead others to enhance resident’s social, emotional, physical and spiritual needs.

  • Preferred experience in dealing with the elderly, including clients with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

  • Completed Pharmacology through the LPN Core Program or through a post-graduate course approved by the Practical Nurses Licensing Board.

  • Must be well organized and be able to initiate workload and work independently. To work within your scope of practice and work closely with the Supervisors team.

  • Must have or be willing to take CPR certification, the Alzheimer’s disease and Related Dementia Care course, and other courses that are offered or required.

  • Must have the ability to work in harmony as a member of the multidisciplinary team, be an example by promoting and upholding all policies and have the ability to take an active role in coaching staff while maintaining a positive attitude and be able to keep things in confidence.

  • Be reliable and available to attend work.

  • As a member of the Care Team, all individuals may be responsible for care duties of facility pets.

  • Promote and support a positive work environment.

  • The ability to use computers.

  • Ability to prioritize and work in a busy environment.
