Alberta Health Services in Calgary seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse - Operating Room Technician (LPN-ORT) to participate in intraoperative care within the Surgical Suites at Peter Lougheed Centre.
You will scrub and circulate, apply nursing process, and collaborate with RNs to ensure safe, patient- and family-centered care. Requires perioperative certification, BCLS-HCP, and active LPN registration.
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)/Operating Room Technician (ORT) contributes to the assessment, plan and performance of quality care for the patient in conjunction with the Registered Nurse and through the application of the nursing process within the surgical suites in accordance with the CLPNA, Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) and CSA standards of practice. The LPN/ORT provides direct care to the intraoperative patient in the OR through the scrub and circulating roles and contributes to the evaluation and modification of safe patient care. The nurse is a patient advocate and provides a link between the units and the OR.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.
Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program.Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA).Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Perioperative certification from an institution that is recognized by the CLPNA. Ability to stand scrubbed for many hours and to meet the physical demands of the position including lifting, pulling and pushing of greater than 50 pounds on a regular basis. Ability to wear lead apron protection for an extended period of time. Basic computer skills.
At least 2 years of previous experience in an inpatient surgical unit. Experience in an operating room setting. Job Shadow in the Operating Room. Ability to collaborate within the expectations of a highly complex and integrated team. Ability to perform consistently in a highly organized, rapidly moving and complex environment. Demonstrated communication skills promoting respect and team spirit.
