Job summary

Interior Health is seeking an experienced Licensed Practical Nurse to join the Perioperative team at Royal Inland Hospital, Kamloops, BC. The LPN will perform scrubbing and circulating duties within a dynamic operating room setting.

The role involves pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative patient care, collaborating with the surgical team, and supporting patients and families. This is a permanent part-time position with rotating day/evening shifts and on-call requirements.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from a recognized practical nurse program with current competencies.
  • Registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) is required.
  • CPR certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide practical nursing in an operating room as part of the surgical team.
  • Perform scrubbing and circulating duties per standards and protocols.

About the Job

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN):

Provides practical nursing services in an operating room environment as a member of an integrated surgical team performing varied surgical interventions.

Consults, confers, and collaborates with other members of the surgical team in facilitating safe and effective surgical interventions through the performance of scrubbing and circulating duties in accordance with established standards and protocols.

Participates in pre-operative, operative, and post-operative activities such as assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting client care, and providing support to clients and their families.

This is a Permanent Part Time (0.81) opportunity.

Shifts of work will be scheduled days and evenings rotating from 07:00 to 15:30, 09:30 to 18:00, 10:00 to 18:30, 14:45 to 23:15 hours. There is on-call requirements.

About this Location

Royal Inland Hospital’s Operating Room Department has 9 theatres offering services that include: General (MIS bowels, hernias, spleen, whipples), Trauma, Ortho Trauma, Obs/Gyne (LAVH), Urology (MIS Nephrectomy, Cystectomy, PCNL’s), Ortho (total joints, sports medicine), ENT, Neuro (Craniotomies, Spinal surgery), Vascular (AAA stents, Bypass grafts, pacemakers, wound management ), Major Plastics, Dental, and Laser cases (Holmium, CO2, YAG). OR RNs are expected to work in all services. As a member of the RIH Operating Room team, you will have circulating and scrubbing duties while coordinating and overseeing the overall care of the patient.

Orientation to the OR is tailor made to the experience of the new staff member, with the average orientation being 12 weeks. Orientation is a week or two in each service depending on prior experience.

We have Resource Nurses in all the specialties to ensure there is on-going support and teaching for all staff members. In-services are provided on a weekly basis. Additional nurses involved with leadership of the department include the Manager, Clinical Operations OR, an Operation Room Educator and Equipment Coordinator. Library Services to support patient care, education and research are available. As well, The OR department has moved into a beautiful new tower!

Qualfications

Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses with the full range of current licensed practical nursing competencies, and graduation from an accredited O.R. program for Licensed Practical Nurses plus one (1) year recent related experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse in acute care, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Current full practicing licensure with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)

Current CPR certification required
