Job summary

Northern Health is seeking a motivated Licensed Practical Nurse to join the Operating Room team at Ksyen Regional Hospital in Terrace. You will provide practical nursing care in a fast-paced surgical environment as part of an integrated team, performing scrubbing and circulating duties, and supporting patients and families before, during, and after surgery.

Position Summary

Do you have a passion for nursing? We have the position for you! We are seeking a motivated Licensed Practical Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at Ksyen Regional Hospital.

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, the Licensed Practical Nurse, Operating Room, provides practical nursing services in an operating room environment as a member of an integrated surgical team performing varied surgical interventions. Consults, confers, and collaborates with other members of the surgical team in facilitating safe and effective surgical interventions through the performance of scrubbing and circulating duties in accordance with established standards and protocols. This includes pre-operative, operative, and post-operative activities such as assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting client care, and providing support to clients and their families.

Shift Rotation/Hours of work

Days, Evenings, 08:30 to 16:48, 11:00 to 19:18 (rotating)

Qualfications
  • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses with the full range of current licensed practical nursing competencies, and graduation from an accredited O.R. program for Licensed Practical Nurses plus one (1) year recent related experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse in acute care, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Current full practicing licensure with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Current CPR certification is required.

  • Assessment and Intervention - Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate/ prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
  • Communication - Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with the clients, families, the public, medical staff, and the members of the interdisciplinary team using verbal, written and computer communication means.
  • Critical Thinking - Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve effectively.
  • Human Caring and Relationship Centered Practice - Ability to promote client-focused care that demonstrates care for and with clients and significant others, sensitive to diverse cultures and preferences, client advocacy and social justice concerns.
  • Teaching - Ability to transmit information intended to instruct clients and others about topics essential to health care and well-being.
  • Management - Manages time and resources, implementing activities to promote cooperation among relevant others, collaboration across disciplines and related activities.
  • Leadership - Promotes staff morale, cooperation, assertiveness and risk-taking, creative planning for change and innovations, implementation of NH policies or other protocols, and ongoing professional development of self.
  • Knowledge Integration - Using factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support decisions and actions with relevant research-based evidence. Integrates best practice from nursing and health-related disciplines and the humanities, arts, and sciences disciplines into professional practice.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
