Job summary

Viking Community Health Centre invites a Licensed Practical Nurse to join the Home Care Team supporting the Viking Home Care program. Reporting to the Home Care Manager, you will provide quality nursing care in the community and supervise Health Care Aides.

You will apply your wound care, palliative care and client teaching skills within an interdisciplinary team, delivering patient and family centred care in varied community settings.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program.
• Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA).
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Your Opportunity: Viking Community Health Centre is looking to welcome a new Licensed Practical Nurse to its Home Care Team supporting the Viking Home Care team. As the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) reporting to the Home Care Manager, you will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people in your community. Reporting to the Care Manager, you will use your strong assessment, organizational, and leadership skills to deliver quality nursing care to clients in the community and to provide leadership and supervision of Health Care Aides. The successful candidate will play a key role on the interdisciplinary team, collaborating in the delivery of holistic, client and family centered care. In this role, you will utilize your strong oral and written communication and deliver quality nursing care to clients in all developmental stages in the community. Utilizing your experience in wound care, palliative care and client teaching, you will take a collaborative approach to meeting health goals, contribute to the nursing diagnosis and participate in nursing interventions and outcomes. Your role will require you to work independently in a variety of settings and be comfortable working in all weather conditions. Viking is located approximately 136 km southeast of Edmonton, Alberta.

Required Qualifications

Additional Required Qualifications

• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) through the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License along with access to a reliable vehicle for business use.

• Transporting supplies and equipment.
• Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position including walking, bending, lifting, and standing and driving for long periods of time.
• CCHSS standards and AHS qualifications is mandatory and documentation that such education requirements are being met must be submitted on a regular basis.
• Competence in relevant technical nursing skills and a willingness to learn new skills as required.
• Basic computer skills.
• Good communication skills and the ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
• Must be able to work in an interdisciplinary team environment as well as to work independently to full scope of LPN practice.
• Demonstrated ongoing responsibility for maintaining own continuing competence through professional development activities.
• At least 3 years recent experience in Continuing care (Type A or B) and or Home Care.
• Must provide references that can substantiate above qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Training and experience with Connect Care or computerized charting systems.
• Experience with supervision of HCAs and assignment of care to the discipline, by also providing training for delegations of client specific tasks, as required.
