Job description

Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (Casual/On-call)

As a valued member of the team, the Licensed Practical Nurse demonstrates a commitment to the quality of resident care by providing services in accordance with the organization’s vision, mission, and values.

This position is accountable for the provision of optimal care services related to resident needs, delivery of skilled procedures, medication administration, and documentation in accordance with quality management, legislative requirements, and organizational standards.

Position Details:

  • This is a Casual (on-call) position.
  • Availability required any day Wednesday to Sunday, 1500-2300.
  • Wage leveling rate of pay is $32.84 per hour until wage leveling ends, after which pay will reflect collective agreement rates.

Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain accountability for the nursing and personal care of residents within the scope of training and licensure.
  2. Notify family/responsible parties of significant changes in a resident’s condition.
  3. Maintain resident records and documentation in accordance with policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
  4. Administer prescribed medications following pharmacy policies & procedures; observe and report changes in resident condition.
  5. Seek guidance from the Manager of Wellness when resident needs exceed experience or scope of practice.
  6. Exercise sound nursing judgment by reporting changes in resident status promptly and taking appropriate actions.
  7. Monitor the safekeeping of drugs and narcotics, ensuring accurate narcotic counts.
  8. Report incidents, near misses, illnesses, or problems with residents to the Manager of Wellness / General Manager.
  9. Report all hospital transfers or resident deaths immediately.
  10. Conduct routine or ad hoc clinical assessments as assigned.
  11. Assist in developing care plans.
  12. Greet visitors and family members positively and offer assistance.
  13. Promote positive communication and relationships among team members.
  14. Demonstrate attributes and communication skills that foster customer satisfaction; monitor team performance regarding customer service.
  15. Foster positive interactions with residents, families, and visitors.
  16. Address and resolve resident or family concerns or complaints, escalating as necessary.
  17. Assist with new resident orientation for smooth transitions.
  18. Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and practices.
  19. React calmly and effectively to problems or emergencies.
  20. Participate in Quality Improvement activities as assigned.
  21. Take responsibility for substituting team members as needed.
  22. Continuously evaluate personal nursing practice and learning needs.
  23. Attend in-service programs, conferences, seminars, and workshops.
  24. Work with residents, families, and the interprofessional team to collect health history data and provide ongoing assessment and documentation.
  25. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Practical Nursing.
  • Current, good standing license as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • CPR Level C or equivalent healthcare provider certification.
  • Minimum of 1 year nursing experience.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Records Check.
  • Assisted Living experience is an asset but not required.
