Job summary

Christenson Communities in Alberta is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to join our part-time night shift team, 0.6 FTE, in a home-like residential setting.

You will deliver resident-focused care within full LPN scope, supervise healthcare aides, coordinate meds, educate residents and families, assist in emergencies, and maintain current skills.

This role requires CLPNA registration, CPR/BCLS, and a clean vulnerable sector check; the environment values dignity, teamwork, and person-centered care.

Qualifications

• LPN with gerontology preferred.
• Current CLPNA membership and CPR/BCLS required.
• Clear police information check within last 6 months.
• Demonstrated leadership, communication, teamwork, concern resolution, and customer service skills.
• Strong organizational and computer skills; problem solving, critical thinking, and commitment to person-centered care.
• Awareness of accident/injury prevention and safe work practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care by assessing health needs, recording vital signs, administering injections/medications, dressing changes, and collecting specimens.
• Supervise and evaluate work performance of healthcare aides and direct their work based on resident needs.
• Place phone calls to pharmacies to order prescriptions and ensure medication stock for all shifts.
• Educate residents and families; explain procedures and assist in coping with illnesses.
• Assist in emergency situations under supervisor guidance.
• Maintain current knowledge and attend required in-services and staff meetings.

Position: Licensed Practical Nurse - Permanent Part-Time

FTE: 0.6

Shift: Nights

Position Responsibilities

Delivers resident-focused care within the full scope of practice of an LPN, in a home-like environment, respecting the individuality and dignity of each resident/family and co- workers including the completion of the following duties:

• Provide direct care by assessing resident health needs – recording vital signs, discuss and records chief health concerns, performs tests, administer injections and medications, dressing changes, immunizations, etc., and obtain specimens (throat, urine, stool, wound, sputum, other body fluids, etc.), using proper technique and following policies and procedures for labeling
• Supervise and evaluates work performance in terms of resident care, staff relations, and efficiency of service, and direct work of healthcare aides based on resident needs and site needs
• Place phone calls to pharmacies to order prescriptions; sets up referral contacts and ensure the unit is stocked with medications and nursing supplies for all shifts.
• Thoroughly educate and explain procedures to residents and family members and assists them in coping with illnesses, and aid in identifying methods of improving patient care
• Assist in emergency situations under the direction of the supervisor
• Maintains current knowledge and skills in clinical practice, attends required in- services and staff meetings, and promotes professional growth for self and staff development

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

• Licensed Practical Nurse, experience in gerontology preferred
• Current membership in good standing with CLPNA and CPR/BCLS for healthcare providers is required
• Clear police information check, with the vulnerable sector, dated within the last 6 months
• Demonstrated skills in leadership, communication, teamwork, concern resolution process, and customer service
• Strong organizational and computer skills, ability to problem solve through critical thinking and self-education, and demonstrated knowledge and commitment to person-centered care
• Awareness of accident and injury prevention, hazard identification and control; adherence to safe work practices and procedures is essential in this position

Other Bona-Fide Occupational Requirements

• Physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of the position (may be required to lift, move, push, or pull objects weighing up to 75 pounds)
• Ability to work on his/her feet for a complete shift while constantly bending, stretching, walking, lifting, or moving things
