Job summary

Christenson Communities is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for a permanent part-time role in Red Deer, Alberta. You will provide resident-focused care within the full scope of LPN practice in a home-like setting, ensuring dignity and safety for residents and families.

Shifts are nights, 12 hours, with a 0.9 FTE commitment. The role emphasizes leadership, teamwork, and high-quality patient care, while maintaining strong communication with the care team and families.

Qualifications

• Licensed Practical Nurse with gerontology experience preferred.
• Current CLPNA membership in good standing.
• CPR/BCLS certification for healthcare providers.
• Police information check with vulnerable sector within last 6 months.
• Leadership, communication, teamwork and customer service skills.
• Strong organizational and computer skills with problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care by assessing resident health needs and recording vital signs; administer medications and injections; perform dressing changes and specimen collection.
• Supervise and evaluate staff, directing healthcare aides based on resident needs.
• Place pharmacy calls to order prescriptions and maintain unit stock of meds and nursing supplies.
• Educate residents and families on procedures and coping with illnesses; assist in care improvement.
• Assist in emergencies under supervisor direction.
• Maintain ongoing knowledge of clinical practice; attend in-service trainings and staff meetings.

Position: Licensed Practical Nurse - Permanent Part-Time

FTE: 0.9

Shifts: Nights - 12 Hours

Position Responsibilities

Delivers resident-focused care within the full scope of practice of an LPN, in a home-like environment, respecting the individuality and dignity of each resident/family and co- workers including the completion of the following duties:

• Provide direct care by assessing resident health needs – recording vital signs, discuss and records chief health concerns, performs tests, administer injections and medications, dressing changes, immunizations, etc., and obtain specimens (throat, urine, stool, wound, sputum, other body fluids, etc.), using proper technique and following policies and procedures for labeling
• Supervise and evaluates work performance in terms of resident care, staff relations, and efficiency of service, and direct work of healthcare aides based on resident needs and site needs
• Place phone calls to pharmacies to order prescriptions; sets up referral contacts and ensure the unit is stocked with medications and nursing supplies for all shifts.
• Thoroughly educate and explain procedures to residents and family members and assists them in coping with illnesses, and aid in identifying methods of improving patient care
• Assist in emergency situations under the direction of the supervisor
• Maintains current knowledge and skills in clinical practice, attends required in- services and staff meetings, and promotes professional growth for self and staff development

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

• Licensed Practical Nurse, experience in gerontology preferred
• Current membership in good standing with CLPNA and CPR/BCLS for healthcare providers is required
• Clear police information check, with the vulnerable sector, dated within the last 6 months
• Demonstrated skills in leadership, communication, teamwork, concern resolution process, and customer service
• Strong organizational and computer skills, ability to problem solve through critical thinking and self-education, and demonstrated knowledge and commitment to person-centered care
• Awareness of accident and injury prevention, hazard identification and control; adherence to safe work practices and procedures is essential in this position

Other Bona-Fide Occupational Requirements

• Physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of the position (may be required to lift, move, push, or pull objects weighing up to 75 pounds)
• Ability to work on his/her feet for a complete shift while constantly bending, stretching, walking, lifting, or moving things
