Job summary

Covenant Living is hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse to join our hospice care team in Calgary, Alberta. The LPN will coordinate day-to-day resident care, working closely with an interdisciplinary team to tailor the nursing process to each resident's needs and preferences.

Reporting to the Resident Care Manager, you will support residents and families through the end-of-life journey with dignity, privacy and compassion while upholding Covenant Care's mission and values.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved Practical Nurse Program required.
• Current registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) required.
• Current CPR / First Aid Certification / Equivalency required.
• Ability to speak French an asset.
• Hospice and/or palliative care experience preferred.
• LEAP (Learning Essential Approaches to Palliative Care) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day delivery of care to residents, guiding the team to ensure quality nursing care.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to individualize and adjust the nursing process.
• Provide end-of-life care support that respects resident choice, dignity, privacy and personhood.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Resident Care Manager, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for managing the day-to-day delivery of care to residents by motivating and empowering the team. The LPN works cohesively with members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure the nursing process (Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation) is individualized and ongoing, such that changing needs of residents are addressed and met.

In accordance with Covenant Care’s mission, vision, and values, this position is responsible for ensuring that residents receive quality care and service according to Covenant Care policies and procedures. Provides support to residents, their family and visitors during the resident’s end of life journey that will enable choice, dignity, privacy, respect and individuality.

This position will:

Qualifications:

• Graduate of an approved Practical Nurse Program required
• Minimum 2 years of experience preferred
• Current registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) required
• Current CPR / First Aid Certification / Equivalency required
• Ability to speak French an asset

Hospice and/or palliative care experience

• LEAP (Learning Essential Approaches to Palliative Care) preferred
• Strong critical assessment skills
• Exhibits open and sincere approach to relating to people by demonstrating respect and compassion for everyone equally
• Recognizes and responds effectively to verbal and non-verbal cues with exceptional active listening skills
• Ability and knowledge to work in a continuing care setting and the ability to deal with difficult behaviors
• Ability to cope with frequent changes such as daily routine, workload, shifts and resident needs and possess exceptional multi-tasking and time management skills
• This position requires you to be vaccinated against all required communicable diseases under Covenant Care’s OHS policy
