Responsibilities

  • Manage full administration of consumer bankruptcy estates from sign up to discharge (CP, PB) using Ascend.
  • Prepare documents for sign up, including electronic signatures.
  • Electronic filing of documents to OSB and court filings as needed.
  • Oversee asset administration and distributions; manage bank reconciliations and reports.
  • Provide guidance on complex files and escalate issues when needed.
  • Mentor team members supporting file administration.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a Licensed Insolvency Trustee to manage our Consumer Insolvency practice. The successful candidate will manage files independently from sign up through to discharge and will report directly to the leadership of the practice. The successful candidate will be expected to focus their time on new and existing file and client management.

This role is best suited to a candidate with experience managing the full administration process independently, including sign ups, banking, and administrative work.

Major Responsibilities
  • Managing the full administration of consumer bankruptcy estates from sign up through to discharge (CP, PB) using Ascend
  • Reviewing files to determine whether all necessary documents are in hand to ensure seamless administration
  • Preparing all documents for sign up of new files, including arranging for electronic signatures
  • Electronic filing of documents to the OSB
  • Overseeing asset administration of both secured and unsecured assets, and realization of assets
  • Completing seven-month file reviews
  • Consolidated Trust and Estate Account bank reconciliations and completion of bank reports pursuant to OSB directive
  • Interim and final distributions
  • Bankrupt and Trustee Discharge applications
  • Drafting section 170 reports
  • Preparing automatic discharge certificates
  • Preparing court documents, including the Trustee's Supplementary Report and draft orders, and representing the estate at court appearances as the Trustee
  • Sending out revised notices of discharge
  • Communicating with bankrupts, debtors, counsel and creditors in writing, by telephone, and where necessary, in person
  • Requesting and following up on debtor examination requests
  • Supervising and mentoring team members supporting file administration, where applicable
  • Providing guidance on complex or contentious files and identifying issues requiring escalation
  • Other duties as may be required
Education
  • Licensed Insolvency Trustee (LIT) designation, required
  • Estate Administrators Certificate (CIRP)
  • BIA Counselling Designation
  • College Diploma in Business or Administration
Qualifications/Experience
  • Licensed Insolvency Trustee with experience in a consumer insolvency firm, including independent management of files from sign up through to discharge
  • Demonstrated experience operating independently, without reliance on a large support team for sign ups, banking, and administrative work
  • Experience supervising or mentoring team members is an asset
  • Ascend experience an asset
  • Extremely detail oriented
  • Strong organizational skills to multi-task and manage a busy workload
  • Computer skills to use Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Analytical skills to analyze account activity
  • Strong written communication, spelling, grammar and proofreading/editing skills to compose letters, memos, and reports
  • Strong verbal communication skills to speak effectively with debtors, creditors, staff and other third parties
  • Interpersonal skills to work well with team members, staff and clients
  • Ability to learn new software quickly
