Role Overview
As a Library Security Shift Supervisor, your ability to read the environment, anticipate risks, and act accordingly is crucial. Your keen sense of observation will be one of your greatest strengths.
This role requires exceptional team leadership and ensuring seamless security operations as you will be moving around your entire shift, motivating and monitoring highly trained security guards, patrolling environments, and safeguarding people in a library environment.

Responsibilities
- Lead a team of highly trained security guards
- Ensure adherence to site protocols
- Facilitate access to restricted areas for authorized personnel
- React promptly to threats or incidents
- Check the functionality of alarms and cameras
- Document incidents and actions taken
- Respond to alarms and conduct on-site checks
- Collaborate with law enforcement during serious incidents
- Perform interior and exterior foot patrols to detect suspicious activity
- Respond to tenant requests
- Handle emergency situations
- Monitor closed-circuit cameras
- Remove unauthorized individuals
- React professionally during emergencies or stressful situations
- Apply conflict de-escalation and trauma-informed safety approaches, emphasizing anti-racism and cultural awareness
- Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Maintain a visible security presence throughout the library and skywalk during operational hours
- Control access points, operate metal detection gates, and assist visitors
- Provide information and directions to the public in a friendly manner
- Collaborate with library staff, Community Safety Hosts, and Crisis Workers to ensure safety
- Follow opening and closing procedures, including locking/unlocking doors and activating/deactivating alarm systems
- Keep detailed logs of unusual occurrences
Qualifications
- Authorized to work in Canada
- Valid Manitoba security license
- Leadership experience (asset)
- First aid certification (asset)
- Positive attitude and professional appearance
- Ability to stand and walk throughout the shift
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Physical and mental fitness to perform duties
- Tactical experience (asset)
- Proficiency with technology
