DIABSOLUT INC. is seeking a Circulation Clerk at our Port Carling/Bala library branches. You will manage day-to-day circulation desk tasks, assist patrons with OPAC, computers, e-readers, and basic tech support, and help maintain the collection.

This part-time role requires a high school diploma, strong computer and communication skills, and the ability to work days, evenings, and weekends. You’ll handle registrations, payments, shelving, and occasional repairs while delivering friendly public

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong computer and communication skills; familiarity with Windows/Office.
  • Able to troubleshoot basic tech issues with support as needed.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
  • Police Record Check within six months.

Responsibilities

  • Operate circulation desk and track inventory in the automated system.
  • Register new users and collect required documentation or fees.
  • Handle cash and follow established cash procedures.
  • Assist patrons with computers, internet, printers, scanning, and emailing.
  • Provide basic troubleshooting with support staff.
  • Assist with e-reader use and downloading resources.
  • Process new books and periodicals for display and circulation.
  • Teach OPAC searches and access to online resources and e-books.
  • Assist with Inter-Library Loans orders.
  • Respond to routine queries in person or by phone.
  • Maintain the collection, shelving, and light repairs as needed.
  • Assist with cataloguing of new materials.
  • Prepare in-library displays and maintain library appearance.

Job description

Position Summary

The Circulation Clerk is responsible for the day to day operations of the circulation desk using an automated circulation system. This includes providing a range of front-line public service and support duties from reader's advisory to technical assistance. This position reports directly to the CEO or designate.

Position Responsibilities
  • Perform the full range of circulation desk procedures by scanning and tracking all library inventory within the automated circulation system.
  • Register new users verifying the required documentation or taking membership fees as required.
  • Collect fees and manage cash register following established procedures.
  • Assist library users with computer and business centre offerings such as; internet access, photocopier, faxing, scanning and emailing.
  • Perform basic technical troubleshooting of office equipment, and software programs occasionally working with professional technical support.
  • Assist users with e-reader use including basic troubleshooting and downloading library resources.
  • Process new books and periodicals for display and circulation using established procedures.
  • Teach and assist library users with the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) to search library holdings from a computer terminal including online resources and e-books.
  • Assist patrons with orders for Inter-Library Loans.
  • Respond to routine queries and answer a variety of questions from users both in person and over the phone.
  • Assist with the general maintenance of the library collection, including shelving materials and performing routine repairs on books and other holdings.
  • Assist with the cataloguing of new materials.
  • Prepare in-library displays.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the physical appearance of the Library, including light cleaning duties.
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
  • Ontario Secondary school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong computer skills, including but not limited to; internet use and research, Microsoft Windows and Office suite, using e-readers, scanning and emailing.
  • Strong problem solving skills and the ability to work through information technology troubleshooting with occasional assistance of technical support.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Police Record Check dated within six months
Schedule and Hours
  • 12 hours per week
  • Days, Evenings and Weekends required.
  • This position may be assigned to work at the Port Carling or Bala Branch.
