Job Summary

The Legal Counsel is part of the Legal Department and provides practical, business-oriented legal advice and support to IPEX and its affiliates throughout Canada and the US.

This is a 12-month contract with a possibility of extension

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain a legal watch and provide legal opinions, strategic advice, guidance and practical solutions on a wide variety of commercial, regulatory, IT, construction, managed services, litigation, insurance, product warranty, employment, and compliance matters and activities, as well as general legal matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of legal opinions, and commercial agreements, including but not limited to construction, leasing, IT and purchase / supply chain and construction matters.
• Performing discovery and due diligence in preparation for compliance audits or M&A transactions or litigation.
• Counselling on all Canadian and US laws applicable to sales, risk management and mitigation, and work with external counsel as required.
• Perform high volumes of junior level entry tasks and various organizational and administrative tasks to help organize the department.

Education & Certificates

• Law Degree (LLL and / or LLB)

Technical Skill & Knowledge

• 1 to 5 years of Experience as an attorney,
• Advanced Proficiency in Word and Outlook; proficiency in Excel, an asset
• Ability to understand technical issues
• Strong drafting and communication skills
• Great interpersonal skills
• Bilingualism (French and English), both spoken and written. Knowledge of English is required because, although the legal team is bilingual, internal stakeholders, our external clients, our suppliers, and our service providers primarily interact with us in English.
• Critical thinking skills - displayed by the ability to find creative solutions to problems
• Ability to evaluate situations independently using multiple sources of information
• Strong Business acumen
• Advanced Proficiency in Word and Outlook; proficiency in Excel, an asset
• Advanced Communication skills and ability to collaborate with other departments within IPEX and external organizations
