The Saskatchewan School Boards Association seeks a permanent full-time Legal Counsel focused on labour and employment law. The role involves providing legal guidance, representing boards in legal matters, and requires an LLB/JD with significant experience. The Saskatchewan School Boards Association (SSBA) is seeking a permanent full-time Legal Counsel with a labour and employment law focus. This position is responsible for providing legal advice and analysis to the membership on issues and policies, representing boards and administration before courts, administrative tribunals and boards; drafting and reviewing contracts and policy documents; conducting legal research; preparing legal opinions and memoranda of law; and advising on and interpreting various legislation and collective agreements. It also provides legal advice to the SSBA, as required. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Legal, Employee and Labour Relations.
Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are obtained through completion of a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) with a minimum of 5 years of practice in a law firm, government entity or a legal department. Successful applicants must hold a practicing certificate with the Law Society of Saskatchewan.
The SSBA offers a competitive salary with health benefits, pension, and professional development opportunities. The salary range is $109,822 to $175,860. The SSBA has a flexible work-from-home policy and encourages a work-life balance.
