iA Financial Group is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its automotive insurance solutions team across Canada. The role sits at the intersection of business, regulatory, and product development, delivering practical legal guidance to enable strategic initiatives.

You will support regulatory compliance, draft and negotiate agreements, and collaborate with Compliance, Risk, and multiple business units to advance product offerings while navigating a rapidly evolving environment.

Qualifications

• University degree in law and Barreau du Québec membership.
• Experience of five or more years in a legal role, preferably in insurance or financial services.
• Ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical business solutions.
• Strong business acumen with capable communication of risks and opportunities.
• Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
• Experience with commercial contracts and regulatory compliance.
• Intermediate English proficiency for cross-Canada communications.

• Provide practical, business-focused legal advice to partners across various business areas;
• Conduct legal and regulatory analyses, particularly in insurance and consumer protection, and provide clear, practical recommendations aligned with business needs;
• Support the implementation of legislative and regulatory changes;
• Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements;
• Contribute to the development and enhancement of products and services, particularly insurance products and warranties;
• Collaborate with business and multidisciplinary teams, as well as Compliance and Risk Management;
• Actively participate in working groups and industry committees;
• Contribute to continuous improvement and organizational transformation initiatives.

What could accelerate your success in this role

We’re looking for someone who:

• Holds a university degree in law and is a member of the Barreau du Québec;
• Has five or more years of relevant legal experience;
• Demonstrates strong business acumen and the ability to turn complex legal matters into practical solutions;
• Shows intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and sound judgment;
• Has excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly;
• Takes a collaborative, proactive, and solution-oriented approach while managing multiple priorities in a dynamic, evolving environment;
• Ideally has experience in commercial and contract law, as well as knowledge of insurance, financial services, or another highly regulated industry;
• Has an intermediate level of English proficiency, as the role requires frequent oral and written communication with the Dealer Services network across Canada and collaboration with unilingual English-speaking colleagues primarily located in Western Canada.
