Job summary

Our client, a leading Canadian energy company, seeks an experienced Commercial Legal Counsel to join its Calgary team. Reporting to the Legal Manager, you will provide strategic, business‑oriented advice across commercial activities, including contract management, supply arrangements, construction matters and oil and gas marketing.

The ideal candidate has eight or more years of corporate/commercial experience, strong drafting and negotiation skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities

Qualifications

• At least eight years of corporate/commercial legal experience.
• Experience in supply chain, construction, or oil and gas marketing.
• Strong drafting, negotiation and communication skills; sound business judgment.

Responsibilities

• Advise on the full contract lifecycle across commercial agreements.

Reporting to the Manager, Legal – Commercial Operations, the successful candidate will provide strategic, business-oriented legal advice and support across a broad range of commercial activities, including supply management, commercial contracts, construction matters and oil and gas marketing. Key responsibilities include advising on the full contract lifecycle, drafting, and negotiating commercial agreements, identifying, and mitigating legal and commercial risks, supporting dispute resolution, and collaborating with internal business units to develop practical legal solutions.

The ideal candidate will have at least eight years of relevant legal experience, ideally in corporate/commercial transactions, supply chain, construction, or oil and gas marketing. Strong drafting, negotiation and communication skills, sound business judgment, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment are essential.
