Qualifications

• 2–6 years of post-call experience in corporate/energy law.

Urban Legal Recruitment is pleased to partner with a leading business law firm on their search for a mid to senior level Commercial Energy Associate to join a collegial, high-performing group of lawyers in their Calgary office. Our client has a strong reputation for supporting the learning and development of its associates and is recognized as an exceptional place to work.

The team works with a diverse client base on domestic and international transactions across upstream and midstream oil and gas, conventional power, renewable energy, and emerging areas. Mandates include energy projects, mergers and acquisitions, share and asset sale transactions, commercial agreements, joint venture arrangements and limited partnership structures, reorganizations, project development, transportation and storage arrangements, and power purchase contracts. The successful candidate will gain industry-leading experience on significant transactional and advisory engagements, including innovative mandates involving alternative energy and renewables.

This role offers mentorship and sponsorship at the Partner and Associate levels, along with a team of Junior Associates to support your practice. Qualifications and Attributes:

• 2-6 years of post-call experience in corporate/energy law from a reputable law firm, or a combination of private practice and in-house experience in oil and gas, power, and renewables, including private mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and project development.


• Extensive transactional experience, including proficiency in drafting and negotiations.


• A law degree and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.


• Excellent academic credentials.


• A breadth and depth of technical legal knowledge, excellent business judgment, and strong analytical and drafting skills.


• Excellent interpersonal and client service skills, strong initiative, and the ability to work well on a variety of teams.


• Excellent organizational, project management, and leadership skills, with the ability to handle multiple time-sensitive priorities.
