We are seeking a pragmatic and strategic Legal Counsel to join the ENMAX in-house Legal Team. This position offers the opportunity to do high caliber legal work as a member of a high performing, collaborative and collegial legal team. This role involves working independently with the business as well as assisting other legal counsel with various tasks.

The ideal candidate is a keen learner, problem-solver and relationship builder who will effectively partner with the business and within the Legal Team to deliver strategic and commercially relevant legal advice on a wide variety of corporate and commercial matters.

Major Responsibilities:

• Cultivate an understanding of ENMAX business operations to provide quality legal advice, identify legal risks, and advise on legal obligations and steps to protect ENMAX’s interests

• Develop timely and practical legal solutions for assigned client groups

• Draft and negotiate contracts and advise during negotiations

• Provide legal support for a variety of corporate legal functions

• Advise in respect of and handle pre-dispute and litigation matters

• Develop relationships within the Legal Team and across the organization to ensure the effective delivery of legal support and advice to the business

• Assist with ongoing precedent development and process improvement

• Work collaboratively and strategically with external counsel, as needed

• Keep current on key legislative matters and update the business and Legal Team as
  required

• Contribute to a culture focused on teamwork, pragmatic solutions, and continuous learning and development

Education Required:

• Law degree (LL.B or J.D.) from an accredited law school

• Practicing member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta

Qualifications & Experience:

• 2-4-year post-call experience at a top tier law firm or in-house

• Experience in corporate or commercial related matters and exposure to dispute management

• Experience in one or more of the following specific areas is an asset:

  • energy

  • IT

  • environment and safety

  • litigation / disputes

  • land rights

  • capital markets, finance and/or banking

  • mergers and acquisitions

Location: This role will be part of our hybrid (home and office) work force with office workspace located at ENMAX Place (141 - 50th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB). You will work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
