Job description

Smith & Little LLP is a Calgary-based law firm specializing in family law matters. Our mission is to assist busy professionals in resolving their disputes with integrity by providing objective decision-making and effective communication.

Role Description

This is a full-time (or part-time) on-site role for a Legal Assistant at our office in Calgary, AB. The Legal Assistant will be responsible for providing administrative assistance, legal document preparation, and communication support. The day-to-day tasks include :

  • Assisting with case management
  • Typing from dictation
  • Scheduling meetings and appointments
  • Drafting legal documents
  • Maintaining filing systems
  • Providing general support to the legal team
  • Ensuring a fully functioning office

We are a small team and the legal assistants share all non-client tasks necessary to ensure the office runs smoothly. Our default is to seek candidates for a full-time role, but we are open to part-time work during our normal business hours to accommodate the right candidate.

Our office is closed on Mondays and our full-time staff work 9-hour days, 4 days per week (Tuesday-Friday). Our full-time staff earn competitive salaries commensurate with experience and excellent benefits after 6 months of service.

We are open to meeting entry-level candidates or those with more experience.

Qualifications

  • Strong computer skills and excellent typing ability are absolutely mandatory requirements to succeed in this role
  • Experience answering telephone calls in any environment is an asset
  • Law and Legal Assistants skills
  • Legal Document Preparation and Administrative Assistance skills
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and legal software
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
  • Experience working in a law firm or legal setting is a plus
  • French language skills are not required but would be a plus for candidates as we serve some francophone clients
