The Ministry of Justice helps ensure that all Albertans can live in safe and resilient communities while having access to a fair and innovative justice system. As the Executive Assistant to the Chief/Associate Chief Justice of the Court of King's Bench of Alberta, you will provide paralegal and administrative support in accordance with governing policies and procedures.

The main responsibilities of this position include:

  • Review background information on matters requiring the Chief/Associate Chief Justice's attention and relay discrepancies or potential concerns.
  • Respond effectively to inquiries on operational or administrative matters, acting as the initial contact for Government officials, the judiciary, Court staff, the legal profession, and the public.
  • Take and transcribe judgments, confidential correspondence, judicial reports, speeches, and other correspondences.
  • Act independently to provide support to the Chief/Associate Chief Justice in all aspects of their judicial and personal duties.
  • Maintain the Chief/Associate Chief Justice's calendar and coordinate travel arrangements.
  • Provide highly personal and confidential administrative services.
  • Compose judicial and personal letters and memorandums.
  • Work independently on special projects and assignments.
  • Assist the Chief/Associate Chief Justice on special boards and commissions.
  • Liaise with various Federal and Provincial Government officials and external agencies.
  • Prepare and format final judicial determinations and electronic judgments.
  • Verify legal text and research information on cases.
  • Coordinate with the clerk's office on filing and distribution of completed judgments.
  • Follow policies for notification and release of judgments to the media.
  • Ensure completed judgments are forwarded to the Provincial Judgment Database.

Qualifications

Fluency in English (orally and in writing) is mandatory. A two-year related diploma and three years of progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent. Preference will be given to candidates with 10+ years of directly related experience.

  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of relevant software.
  • Experience with writing and editing correspondence.
  • Experience in issues management.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.

  • Must have unquestionable integrity.
