The Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, in collaboration with the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, is seeking to recruit an Academic Outpatient Geriatric Psychiatrist. The successful candidate will qualify for an academic position as a Clinician-Teacher, Researcher, Clinician-Educator, or Clinician in Quality Improvement, with eligibility for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2025, but this will be determined in consultation with the candidate.
The Sunnybrook Department of Psychiatry comprises over 50 psychiatrists working within a 36-bed Schedule 1 facility, including beds for Youth (ages 14-18), Adults/Geriatrics, and Psychiatric ICU beds. By November 2024, a new unit will open, increasing capacity to 47 beds, including youth, PICU, and adult beds.
The successful candidate will provide outpatient geriatric psychiatry services as part of a multidisciplinary team, with opportunities for community outreach, supporting interprofessional clinics, and engaging in research on mental disorders and mental health in aging. There are also opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration in our Garry Hurvitz Brain Sciences building and Harquail Centre, including neuromodulation research.
Qualifications include an MD degree, certification or eligibility in Psychiatry from the Royal College/Board, eligibility for medical licensure in Ontario, and preferably, eligibility for FRCPC in Geriatric Psychiatry or equivalent. A strong teaching record is preferred, given the presence of learners on the team.
Compensation is based on a fee-for-service model, supplemented by funding from Academic and Educational Trust Funds and/or departmental administrative roles.
