Job summary

Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Ontario is seeking a Learning Specialist & Trainer for the Your Health Space program. You will lead curriculum development, deliver training to healthcare partners, and ensure content meets modern workplace mental health standards across Ontario.

The role emphasizes independent initiative, adult-education experience, and ability to work in both in-person and virtual formats. English fluency is required; French is an asset.

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Ontario is a provincial association, committed to improving services and support for individuals living with mental illnesses and addictions issues, and to the promotion of mental health in Ontario.

Your Health Space supports health care organizations across Ontario to improve mental health in their workplaces through live workshops and self-directed modules. It embraces the holistic view that psychological health and safety in the workplace takes the collective effort of individuals across an entire health care organization. Therefore, the program is offered to Leaders, Health Care Workers, and Support Staff working in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and home and community care settings. Through this program, health care workers can learn to recognize and manage symptoms of chronic workplace stress and connect with colleagues through facilitated discussions.

Job Summary

The Learning Specialist & Trainer, Your Health Space (YHS) is responsible for any existing and future learning & development initiatives, including curriculum revisions and customization of YHS programming for clients. The Learning Specialist & Trainer will deliver YHS training to healthcare partners of CMHA Ontario in communities across Ontario.
The ideal candidate has experience creating and developing curriculum for adult learners, is comfortable operating on their own initiative, and is able to deliver in-person and virtual training.

Core Responsibilities

• Maintains oversight and responsibility for the YHS program curriculum, modules, workshop materials, training materials, and other pieces of the curriculum (e.g., videos, workshop catalogue, etc.) through a quality improvement lens.
• Prepares for and delivers YHS training to leaders, frontline healthcare workers and supportive healthcare professionals (e.g., Ministry staff, public health staff etc.) across Ontario.
• Leads updates and developments of the YHS curriculum and associated materials through a quality improvement lens based on the latest research and practice in modern workplace trends, mental health best practices, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Accessibility (EDIA) best practices, and the National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace (“the Standard”), as well as client and participant feedback.
• In partnership with the Manager, Training and Curriculum, as well as the Director YHS, maintains up-to-date trademarks, copyrights, and intellectual property rights on all YHS materials.
• Leads the development and implementation of customized workshops for YHS clients, as requested.
• Provides community-based training, as scheduled, based on program needs, client demand, and operational requirements.
• In partnership with the Manager, Training and Curriculum, periodically hosts training and development opportunities for YHS team members on workplace mental health best practices, as well as any curriculum updates.
• Liaises with CMHA Ontario internal resource positions (e.g., YHS Evaluation and Data Coordinator, QI Coaches, E-Learning Coordinator, Communications team etc.) to enhance the overall program quality and reach.
• Participates in various subcommittees within the YHS team.
• Attends regular meetings of the YHS and CMHA Ontario teams.

Skill-Based Competencies

• Minimum 3 years’ experience training adult learners required.
• Work experience in the healthcare sector required. Direct patient/client care experience strongly preferred.
• Experience in curriculum development, including modules, workshop materials, training materials, and other pieces of the curriculum.
• Certification/designation in a relevant healthcare field (e.g., RN, RP, RPN, BSW, MSW, PSW, SSW, CYC etc.) preferred.
• Ability to deliver training effectively in English required, and in French a strong asset.
• Ability to design and deliver curricula related to mental health and addictions.
• Experience within the mental health or healthcare field is a strong asset.
• Experience in program leadership and experience and training in project management is a strong asset.
• Familiarity with key concepts of mental health promotion, health equity, and social determinants of health an asset.
• Working knowledge of the mental health and addictions sector, workplace mental health, and the Z1003 National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including strong writing, editing, and presentation skills with a high attention to detail.
• Experience applying judgment, initiative, and discretion when dealing with confidential, legal, and/or sensitive information.
• Strong strategic thinking and leadership skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, and Outlook), database management, and email software.
• G Class license required.

Salary

Hiring Rate: This position pays between $76,866.17 and $79,172.16 per annum, based on a 35-hour work week.

The salary grid for this role ranges between $76,866.17 at Step 1 and $86,513.55 at Step 5. The initial salary offered for this position is anticipated to fall between Step 1 and Step 2 of the salary grid as posted above as the hiring rate.

The successful candidate will be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package that includes pension through HOOPP, life, health, and dental insurance, exclusive paid time-off and opportunities for professional development.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time, temporary fixed term contract until June 30, 2027, bargaining position, covering for a leave of absence, working standard office hours (currently 35 hours/week). This position is based in Toronto, Ontario, but will allow for remote work for qualified candidates outside the Greater Toronto Area, Ontario.

Regular travel will be required including up to 4 overnight stays monthly. The successful candidate can also expect to be working in the community as scheduled at varying health care serving organizations.

This position is also a desk job with extended periods of sitting, reading, telephone interaction, and working at the computer. This position involves some moderate lifting, shipping, and handling. Attendance at various meetings throughout the workday/workweek will be required; meetings may occur on short notice, depending on the circumstances.

As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to maintain and submit proof of full COVID-19 vaccination.
