Job summary

General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada seeks an LSE Specialist/Engineer to oversee system and subsystem requirements, design, integration and compliance across the product lifecycle. Specialist/Engineer P54

The Lead Systems Engineering (LSE) Specialist/Engineer is responsible for overseeing the system and subsystem-level requirements, design, integration, and compliance assessments of our products, ensuring they meet rigorous performance, safety, and operational requirements. This role requires a deep understanding of mechanical, electrical, tactical and weapon systems, and the ability to lead a multidisciplinary team through the entire product lifecycle from concept to technical data package release. The LSE Specialist/Engineer is responsible for the development and execution of the design engineering process and for the creation of requirements work products such as SPS, SSPS, PDFS, SwRS, and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) deliverables.

Key Job Elements
  • Lead the development of subsystem requirements in DOORS and/or Cameo for Production and IR&D projects; ensure all designs comply with subsystem specifications.
  • Support and document requirement allocations (Size, Weight, Power, Cooling, Reliability, etc.).
  • Develop and maintain requirements traceability to customer requirements and internal GDLS standards.
  • Contribute to subsystem integration into vehicle systems, supporting testing and validation to confirm functionality, reliability, and safety under various operational conditions.
  • Lead Design Maturity Review (DMR) meetings for assigned subsystems and assess maturity risk levels.
  • Serve as Technical Liaison between the company, clients, regulatory bodies, and subcontractors.
  • Employ MBSE fundamentals and systems engineering practices.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, design documentation, and specifications, ensuring all project documentation is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Support the development of the System Engineering Management Plan (SEMP) and SE planning activities.
  • Contribute to the Lessons Learned database for active programs regarding systems engineering processes.
  • Support subsystem design description development with design engineering teams.
  • Lead Systems Engineering activities including DMRs, Gates (SRR, SFR, PDR, CDR), TPM, and product deliverables (CDRLs).
Required Qualifications
  • University Degree or College Diploma in a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop budgets and schedules.
  • Strong technical and analytical ability.
  • Product knowledge of the LAV vehicle.
  • Strong communication, organization, and prioritization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to give presentations to internal and external customers.
  • Must meet anthropometrical size requirements for confined space.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mobility systems and vehicle performance.
  • Strong knowledge of cross‑departmental procedures / practices and vehicle design practices.
  • Basic understanding of requirements development and system verification processes.
  • Intermediate computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to travel (5% Canada, 10% US & International) and obtain/maintain a valid passport.
Preferred Qualifications
  • P.Eng or the ability to obtain a P.Eng.
