Job summary

General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada in London, Ontario seeks a Specialist/Engineer P54 to evaluate and strengthen cybersecurity for automotive applications. You’ll collaborate with software, systems engineering and project teams to ensure protections meet contractual requirements and quality standards.

The role requires a university degree, minimum 3 years in security for embedded systems, knowledge of NIST RMF, and ability to travel.

Responsibilities

  • Support and develop cybersecurity requirements for automotive applications
  • Follow strategy for secure vehicle architectures and processes into existing software products
  • Follow established software development processes including reviews, requirements, tests and configuration management
  • Work within both Agile and Waterfall frameworks
  • Document code and development processes for compliance
  • Provide troubleshooting support and technical assistance for security issues
  • Share new IRAD ideas with the Advanced Products & Technology team
  • Support development of cryptography, intrusion detection, AI/ML for cybersecurity applications

Job Description

A Cybersecurity team member evaluates existing systems for security risks based on industry best practices and an understanding of the threats faced by our vehicles. The collaborate with other teams on what security features provide the most value for a given program meeting contractual requirements as well as expected quality from a world-class organization. Cybersecurity team members work closely with others in the software department and engineering to ensure an adequate level of cybersecurity protection is considered for a given system.

Key Job Elements
  • Support and develop cybersecurity requirements and products for automotive applications.
  • Follow stakeholders strategy for secure vehicle architectures, departmental processes & procedures, cybersecurity best practices into existing software products.
  • Follow established organization software processes and plans for developing software e.g. peer reviews, software requirements specification, test procedures/results, software configuration management, etc.
  • Work within both Agile and Waterfall software development frameworks.
  • Document code and development processes for future reference and compliance.
  • Provide troubleshooting support and technical assistance for software and security related issues, analyzing and resolving customer reported problems.
  • Share new IRAD ideas with the Advanced Products & Technology team, and support project execution as requested.
  • Support the development of technical solutions in areas such as: cryptography, intrusion detection systems, the use of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) for cybersecurity applications, key management strategies, and infrastructure.
  • Liaise with various teams such as software development, systems engineering, project engineering, and program on cybersecurity topics.
Required Qualifications
  • University Degree or College Diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience
  • Familiar with NIST and other Risk Management Frameworks
  • Project management experience
  • Can articulate the importance of security in embedded systems to non-technical individuals
  • Able to read and interpret electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic schematics
  • Strong communication, organization and prioritization skills
  • Experience working with teams and/or customers
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Intermediate computer skills in MS Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to Travel (25% Canadian, 5% US & International) and possess and maintain a valid passport
Preferred Qualifications
  • P.Eng or the ability to obtain a P.Eng
  • Certification in one or more of the following: CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CISM, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
  • Familiarity with on-highway truck electronics and mechanical subsystems
  • Experience using SysML + UML
  • Familiar with testing and debugging electronic equipment in a lab setting (Oscilloscope, Function Generator, etc.)
  • Valid Secret level security clearance
  • Working knowledge of ISO 11989, Bosch CAN2.0B, SAE J1939 and similar standards
  • Familiarity with Ethernet Frames and Protocols (TCP/IP,UDP)
  • Strong with C, C++, C#, and Python programming languages
