Job summary

Valard Construction is seeking a Construction Manager to lead on-site activities for high voltage substation, transmission, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects based in Calgary or Edmonton, AB. You will report to the Manager, Substation Construction and coordinate with Site Supervisors, subcontractors, and clients to drive safe, on-time delivery.

The role requires 10+ years of leadership in construction, a Journeyman PSE or Electrician designation, and strong knowledge of CSA/OESC

Qualifications

• Journeyman PSE or Electrician designation.
• 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in the construction industry.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Experience with Microsoft Office and project scheduling/cost reporting software (e.g. Primavera P6, MS Project).

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and control all aspects of on-site work for high voltage substation, transmission, and BESS projects, ensuring safe, on-time, on-budget delivery.
• Act as the main point of contact between Site Supervisors, subcontractors, and the Client.
• Administer compliance with electrical codes (e.g. CSA/OESC), utility technical standards, and permit requirements (e.g. UWPC/PC).
• Coordinate FAT/SAT commissioning activities with engineering and client representatives.
• Manage the change order and RFI process, including cost and schedule impacts and commercial negotiations.
• Oversee subcontractor performance and lead incident investigations through to closure.
• Support union labour relations, and train, mentor, and recruit field supervisory staff.
