Job summary

Valard Construction is seeking an experienced Estimator for our Substations group, with base locations in Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg or Toronto. You will compile cost estimates, assess material, labour and equipment, and support competitive bids for substations or BESS projects.

Responsibilities include preparing bid deliverables, reviewing outsourced estimates with engineering, and developing execution plans and schedules.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Electrical Engineering, Journeyman Electrician or related field.
• 5 years of utility construction estimating experience or 3 years in industry-specific estimating on $1M–$50M projects.
• Experience in EPC estimating/execution and producing bid deliverables.
• Proven ability to compile cost estimates and analyze quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Knowledge of estimating practices, costs, and budgets; ability to read drawings and specs.

Responsibilities

• Develop complete estimates for projects including site visit, quantity take-off, pricing, and submission review.
• Assemble estimates from multiple sources into final bid package with engineering support.
• Review outsourced estimates and validate with engineering input.
• Incorporate historical data and costs into Valard's cost model.
• Prepare written bid deliverables and conceptual input for complex projects.
• Communicate estimating input to team and management.
