Job summary

P&H Foods Inc. is seeking an experienced maintenance professional to support our egg processing facilities. The role covers general maintenance, leadership responsibilities, and electrical work across grading, wrapping, and cooling units.

The candidate will manage preventive maintenance programs, supervise team members, and ensure food safety standards while collaborating with the Plant/Operations Manager.

Qualifications

  • Must have Grade 12 with strong English and math skills.
  • Government trade certificate required.
  • Completed courses in electronics, computers and/or welding are assets.
  • 3+ years of maintenance experience on processing/packaging lines.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain documentation across CMMS and other outlets.
  • Update work orders and manage preventative maintenance to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure optimal machine output, maintain line speeds and product quality.
  • Maintain egg grading machine and resolve machine issues promptly.
  • Operate mobile equipment and maintain other company machinery.
  • Lead maintenance team in absence of supervisor; mentor apprentices.
  • Ensure HACCP, biosecurity, and safety procedures are followed.

What We’re Looking For:
  • Knowledge developing preventative maintenance programs, including training and operating procedures.
  • A strong mechanical aptitude and skilled at troubleshooting (problem-solving) machinery required.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently with little supervision are required.
  • Ability to react quickly to problems as they arise to minimize production down time.
  • Ability to independently bring forth innovative ideas and suggestions to improve production and/or the work environment.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, ability to provide clear, concise general instructions for team effectiveness.
  • Sound understanding of the principles and practices of effective supervision, skilled at motivating and leading employees. Additional training in supervision desirable.
  • Grade 12 education with strong English (written and verbal) and mathematical skills.
  • Must have maintained a government trade certificate for multiple years.
  • Completed courses in electronics, computers and/or welding considered an asset.
  • Equipment operator’s certification to operate a forklift and pallet jack, or the ability to obtain certifications.
  • 3+ years maintenance experience servicing and maintaining processing and packaging line equipment in a production environment.
  • Experience using computer based preventative maintenance systems considered an asset.
  • Excellent workplace safety record.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance – General
  • Ensure all documentation is maintained through all outlets, including the CMMS.
  • Update and maintain work orders, ensuring employees are effectively using the CMMS.
  • Manage the preventative maintenance program designed to keep down time to a minimum and ensure there is an adequate supply of spares to replace broken or worn-out machine parts.
  • Ensure optimal machine output and line speeds, maintaining quality of product, reacting promptly to problems with the machine, resolving breakdowns quickly and efficiently.
  • Maintain the egg grading machine to ensure it is in good, safe working order for continuous production, visually inspecting components while running and troubleshooting any problems that are detected.
  • Start-up and shut down of the machine as required, ensuring inspection systems are operating correctly.
  • Operate mobile equipment as required.
  • Maintain other company equipment and machinery including mobile equipment.
  • Attend all required training sessions and scheduled meetings.
  • Ensure all contractors comply with outside contractor and responsibilities sign off.
  • Assist others wherever needed to ensure continual running of the machine.
  • Keep work area clean and tidy and free of hazards.
  • Be an active contributor to the food safety culture and ensure all food safety issues are communicated with the Plant Manager/Operations Manager, Maintenance Supervisor and QA Manager/HACCP Coordinator.
  • Live by the company’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with all levels of staff.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or the Plant Manager/Operations Manager.
Maintenance – Lead
  • Responsible for all maintenance-related issues concerning grading machines, wrapping machines, and cooling units.
  • Lead the maintenance team in the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Liaise between production and maintenance regarding priority issues and scheduling.
  • Oversee and review work activities of maintenance team members, welcoming new team members, creating a positive work environment.
  • Support and mentor maintenance apprentices for continuous improvement.
  • Assist the Maintenance Supervisor, contributing supportive feedback for employee performance reviews.
  • Address employee concerns in a timely manner. Seek assistance from the Maintenance Supervisor and/or human resources regarding challenging employee situations and documentation.
  • Assist in the scheduling of maintenance team members.
  • Promote a positive and professional team environment – be open to feedback and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure employees are following established HACCP (Food Safety), biosecurity, and health and safety procedures.
Maintenance – Electrical (as applicable)
  • Oversee the layout, installation, repair and maintenance of electrical wiring, light fixtures, control devices and related equipment in the facility.
  • Read and interpret circuit diagrams and electrical code specifications to plan wiring layouts.
  • Troubleshoot, identify and repair fault issues with electrical systems.
