Job summary

Redpath is seeking an experienced Lead Mechanic for an underground project in James Bay, Québec. The role focuses on preventive maintenance and repairs of diesel, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on heavy equipment.

You will mentor apprentices and ensure safety, quality, and timely completion of tasks. Responsibilities include diagnosing complex issues, scheduling priorities, and maintaining shop records.

Qualifications

• Heavy Duty Mechanic Journeyperson preferred.
• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum 3 years underground mechanical experience.
• Basic literacy (read, write, basic math and read blue print) required.
• Maintenance experience on Maclean, CAT and Sandvik equipment, including jumbo and split-feed.
• Welding experience is an asset.
• Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams and flowcharts.
• Ability to use Excel, Word and Adobe Reader.
• Knowledge of safety regs such as 5 gas, fire suppression and NDT.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on diesel, electrical, hydraulic and air systems.
• Diagnose and repair a variety of mechanical equipment and maintain shop records.
• Schedule daily work priorities and manage inventory for the mechanic shop.
• Train apprentices and assist other tradespersons as required.
• Perform emergency repairs to equipment as needed.
• Ensure safety and quality standards are met on all tasks.
• Note information affecting equipment safety and report irregularities.
• Fill out preventive maintenance check sheets and work orders.
• Understand project scope and apply appropriate procedures.
