Job Summary:
Lead mechanics oversee the work of a team of mechanics. The primary role of the Lead Mechanic is to perform preventative maintenance and repairs to diesel/electric/pneumatic and hydraulic equipment. Their job entails many of the duties a mechanic is expected to carry out, while additionally making sure their subordinates' work meets quality standards and all tasks are completed safely and in a timely matter.
Responsibilities
- Understand scope of work to be completed per project and plans.
- Comply with the Mine Regulation Act and Regulations clauses that apply to your work area
- Provide skilled mechanical work in diagnosing, repairing and maintaining a variety of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems
- To schedule daily work priorities, maintain inventory and records for mechanic shop; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
- Must be able to comprehend written & verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner
- Must be able to create and close work orders through the Oracle Fusion Platform. Training will be provided through Redpath.
- Perform emergency repairs to equipment as required
- To note any information that has or may affect the safety of equipment, i.e. log books, check sheets, etc.
- To report to the supervisor any irregular circumstances or conditions related to his area of responsibility
- To accurately fill out any preventative maintenance check sheet related to his work, i.e., work order, warehouse withdrawal slips
- Must assist another tradesperson when assigned by his supervisor
- To be able to make decisions related to his workplace or equipment
- Must be able to follow proper procedure to ensure safety and limit equipment damage
- Must have skills to help train new employees, apprentices, etc., in the area on day to day operations plus on the procedures for operating equipment
- Perform diagnostic testing to identify problems and determine the solution to solve the problem
- Familiar with underground Mobile equipment Braking regulations//testing and adjusting such components
- Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturer specifications

Health and Safety:
- Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
- Following Redpath Canada Limited health and safety standards and systems, including the Five Point Safety System and the Cardinal Rules, and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions
- Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment required in the performance of the work.
- Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.
- Comply with the Act and Mining Regulations that apply to the work area.
Qualifications
Education:
- Journeyman level qualification (trade school or college diploma) – (preferred)
- High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred)
- Basic literacy (read, write, basic math and read blue print) required
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years underground mechanical experience
- Maintenance experience on: Maclean equipment, Cat and Sandvik scoop and haulage truck, Sandvik Jumbo’s including Split Feed and miscellaneous project supporting equipment.
- Strong Organizational skills.
Welding experience would be an asset.
Knowledge Required
- Texa & Cat ET Diagnostic software
- Ability to understand work from ladder flowcharts, schematics, sketches and wiring diagrams.
- Ability to utilize and create excel spreadsheets, word documents and adobe reader
- Government Regulations and interval testing for; Fire Suppression, 5 gas analysis, NDT, pressure vessels, tire & rim, crane etc…
- Respectful of cultural differences
