Job summary

Capital Power seeks a Lead, Product Control to head the Product Control team within its Commodity Risk function. The role ensures valuation integrity, P&L governance, and valuation related reporting for Capital Power’s Supply & Trading activities.

The Lead oversees daily and month-end P&L production, price curve validation, IPV, and valuation model governance, ensuring results are explainable and compliant with internal controls and regulatory requirements, while partnering with Trading, Market

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in Finance, Business, Economics or related field.
  • Professional designation such as CFA, FRM or PRM is an asset.
  • 8+ years of experience in Product Control, valuation, or P&L reporting in energy/commodities.
  • 3+ years of people leadership experience.

Responsibilities

  • Build, lead and mentor the Product Control team, fostering a strong control environment and analytical rigor.
  • Own daily and month-end P&L production, validation and sign-off, ensuring completeness and timeliness.
  • Review, approve, and govern commodity price curves, including daily validation and month-end independent price verification (IPV).
  • Conduct and oversee P&L attribution and explanation, articulating drivers of realized/unrealized P&L and market impacts.
  • Collaborate with Market Risk to oversee valuation models, data inputs, and assumptions for defensible outcomes.
  • Maintain strong valuation controls, including adjustments and data quality checks to support P&L and reporting.
  • Support Market Risk in evaluating structured transactions from valuation and economic perspectives.
  • Interpret and support valuation-related regulatory requirements (derivatives reporting) with Compliance and Risk.
  • Support audits by providing documentation and evidence related to valuation, P&L, and Product Control processes.
  • Drive enhancements to valuation workflows, data quality, and system integrity within the ETRM platform.
  • Develop and implement data-led automation to increase team impact and scalability.
