Job summary

Capital Power is seeking a Lead, Technical Accounting to join our Edmonton team in a permanent full-time capacity. You will assess impacts of significant transactions and prepare quarterly and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards while supporting leadership and auditors with technical insights.

You will collaborate with finance and internal audit on IFRS developments, SOX controls, and disclosures, with hybrid work from home Mondays and Fridays and in-office

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting.
  • Professional accounting designation required.
  • Experience with IFRS standards.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on technical accounting matters and prepare supporting memos on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Monitor technical accounting issues and communicate updates to auditors and senior management quarterly.
  • Prepare the indirect cash flow statement and supporting working papers quarterly and annually.
  • Prepare Adjusted Funds from Operations (AFFO) and advise on transaction impacts.
  • Prepare or review financial statement notes and supporting documentation.

Your Opportunity

One Permanent Full-Time Position.

The Lead, Technical Accounting plays a key role in assessing the impacts of significant and unusual transactions and in preparing quarterly and annual financial statements. This role ensures continued compliance with accounting standards and regulations, while supporting leadership and auditors with technical accounting insights.

You will contribute to our team by:
Technical Accounting & Reporting
  • Advise on technical accounting matters and prepare supporting memos on an ad-hoc basis
  • Monitor technical accounting issues and communicate updates to auditors and senior management quarterly
  • Prepare the indirect cash flow statement and supporting working papers quarterly and annually
  • Prepare Adjusted Funds from Operations (AFFO) and advise on transaction impacts
  • Prepare or review financial statement notes and supporting documentation
Standards & Compliance
  • Monitor IFRS developments and prepare quarterly summaries for the Audit Committee
  • Prepare IFRS disclosure checklists to support financial statement reporting
  • Perform SOX controls as required
What you will bring to the role:
Education
  • Post-secondary degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting
  • Professional accounting designation
  • Experience working with IFRS
Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience post designation
  • Experience in financial reporting; public company experience is an asset
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite
  • Experience with Oracle is an asset
  • Experience with US GAAP is an asset
Working Conditions
  • Hybrid work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office Tuesday - Thursday.
  • Edmonton or Calgary candidates will be considered for the position.
  • 8 hours per day, with reasonable overtime required during quarter-end periods
  • Core hours between 7:30-8:30 AM start and 4:30-5:30 PM end.

In order to be considered for this role you must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

The successful candidate for this position will undergo an education verification, reference checks and criminal record check. Clearance of Credit check is required for this position.
