Job summary

Sandvik Mining in Saskatoon, SK is seeking a Lead Hand to oversee a team of production workers and technicians. You will ensure safety, quality, and efficiency, acting as the key link between management and the shop floor while providing leadership, training, and hands-on support to meet operational goals.

You will monitor productivity, manage resources, and maintain accurate records of progress, materials used, attendance, and incidents.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to production workers and technicians on the day shift.
  • Ensure work meets high-quality standards and complies with specifications and customer requirements.
  • Conduct inspections and quality checks, addressing defects and issues promptly.
  • Implement and support quality control measures to improve work processes and outcomes.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels and material availability.
  • Ensure team members have the tools, equipment, and resources required to complete assigned tasks.
  • Coordinate the procurement and distribution of materials as needed.
  • Optimize workflow and work processes to maximize efficiency and productivity.
  • Assist with scheduling, resource allocation, and workload planning to meet operational goals.
  • Monitor and report on team productivity and output.
  • Maintain accurate records of work progress, materials used, attendance, performance, and incidents.
  • Prepare reports and updates for management as required.
  • Act as a liaison between employees and management, communicating goals, expectations, and project updates.
  • Report project progress, challenges, and deviations from plans to supervisors.
  • Enforce safety protocols and ensure all team members comply with company and regulatory safety requirements.
  • Recognize unsafe acts and conditions, take corrective action, and promote a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Report and address safety violations, incidents, and near misses promptly.
  • Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with Company Values, Policies, and Procedures.
  • Communicate professionally and courteously with co‑workers, management, customers, and other stakeholders.
  • Address customer inquiries, concerns, and requests in a professional and timely manner.
  • Operate tools and machinery safely, efficiently, and productively while maintaining quality standards.
  • Perform modifications to enhance operational performance and improve safety.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support business needs.
