Job summary

Sandvik Mining is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist for our Winnipeg operations and Canada Sales Area. The role focuses on strengthening compliance, risk management, and continuous improvement across workshops, warehouses, and remote services.

You will lead studies, audits, and ICAM investigations, support the EHS system, and promote safety training. A post-secondary EHS degree and 2–5 years of experience are expected, with ISO 14001/45001 knowledge and BI skills.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of relevant EHS experience; mining, construction, or oil and gas experience is an asset.
  • Experience with EHS management systems and incident investigations (ICAM or similar).
  • Knowledge of risk assessment methods in high-risk environments.
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 requirements.
  • Experience developing policies and training programs.
  • Knowledge of data management systems and BI tools.
  • Strong skills in Excel, Power Query, Power BI, and MS Office.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Eligible to work in Canada; bilingual English/French is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Support and lead studies, audits, and ICAM investigations to ensure compliance with EHS laws and regulations.
  • Communicate and support the EHS management system for Winnipeg operations and Canada Sales Area.
  • Manage incident and hazard processes for employees and supervisors.
  • Promote safety-focused work practices and assist training program delivery.
  • Monitor EHS legislation and update workforce records and Sandvik databases.
  • Assist contractor management for Winnipeg and Canada-wide activities.
  • Participate in ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 audits.
  • Conduct job hazard analyses and risk assessments in high-risk situations.
  • Provide hands-on EHS support to workshops, warehouses, and assembly lines.

What you will be doing
  • Support and lead studies, audits, and ICAM investigations to help ensure compliance with applicable environmental, health, and safety laws, standards, and regulations.
  • Support and communicate the EHS management system and associated processes for Winnipeg operations and Sales Area Canada.
  • Support and communicate incident and hazard management processes for employees and supervisors.
  • Promote safety-conscious work practices and support the development and delivery of training programs.
  • Monitor applicable EHS legislation, maintain current records in Sandvik databases, and communicate relevant changes to the workforce.
  • Support environmental, health, and safety contractor management processes in Winnipeg and across Canada.
  • Participate in internal and external ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 audits.
  • Conduct job hazard analyses and other risk assessments in high-risk situations.
  • Provide practical, hands-on EHS support to workshops, warehouses, remote services, and the Winnipeg assembly line.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What you will bring along
  • Completed post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, or a related field.
  • Two to five years of relevant environmental health and safety experience; experience in mining, construction, or oil and gas is an asset.
  • Experience with environmental health and safety management systems and incident investigations using ICAM or a similar methodology.
  • Knowledge of job hazard analysis and other risk‑assessment methods used in high-risk environments.
  • Knowledge of applicable EHS legislation and ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 requirements.
  • Experience developing and implementing policies and training programs.
  • Knowledge of data management systems and business intelligence or relational database applications.
  • Strong skills using Microsoft Excel Power Query, Power BI, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an integrated team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent organisation, time management, and attention to detail.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation is an asset but is not required.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French, both written and spoken, is a strong asset.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence and ability to travel occasionally, up to once per quarter.
  • Ability to work primarily on site in Winnipeg with regular exposure to the shop and assembly-line environment.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
