Job summary

PCL Industrial Management Inc. in Edmonton, Alberta (Ind Mgmt) is seeking an Estimator to prepare bids for diverse contract types. You will support the lead estimator, manage quantity take-offs, and build strong relationships with trade partners on a variety of projects.

The role requires a bachelor’s or equivalent, 4 years of estimating experience, and comfort with multiple delivery methods. On-site experience is preferred and advancement paths are available within a supportive team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in related discipline or trade experience or equivalent.
• 4 years of progressive experience in construction cost estimating; 6 months on-site experience preferred.
• Successfully led pursuits valued at up to $25 million in various delivery methods.
• General construction knowledge; understands specifications, drawings, materials, and methods and procedures.
• Intermediate knowledge of bid preparation; quantity takeoff, subtrade procurement, pricing, bid closing procedures.
• Understanding of compensation models, market conditions, business trends, internal historical information, and competitors.
• Familiar with hard bid, GMP, unit price, design-build, target prices, and cost reimbursable.
• Ability to establish working relationships with stakeholders including soliciting subtrade partners and suppliers.
• Working knowledge of estimating software and strong Microsoft Office skills.

Responsibilities

• Leads small to medium estimates or components of large estimates and reviews all bid documents.
• Conducts detailed analysis of contract documents and specifications to determine project requirements.
• Ensures full quantity take-offs of labor, equipment, and materials from project documents.
• Supports the estimate lead by populating tender forms and assisting with bid schedules.
• Recognizes risks related to project requirements, site, schedule and market conditions.
• Assists with bid document control and archiving for project transfer.
• Performs bid-day assignments and supports other estimators to close scopes successfully.
• Develops and maintains relationships with stakeholders including lead estimator and suppliers.
• Solicits competitive pricing from subtrade partners for pursuit support.
• Establishes a critical path schedule for the estimate/pursuit.
• Leads a small team including mentoring and coaching indirect reports.
