We are seeking an experienced Rolling Stock Lead Engineer (P.Eng.) to provide technical leadership for the Edmonton Capital & Metro Lines High-Floor Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) Project.

This is a key engineering leadership position responsible for providing technical expertise, direction, coordination, and oversight of LRV design and manufacturing activities. The successful candidate will work closely with project management, multidisciplinary engineering teams in South Korea, the Edmonton-based Integration Manager, the client, and other project stakeholders.

The ideal candidate is a senior rail professional with extensive rolling stock design and manufacturing experience, strong multidisciplinary leadership capabilities, and a proven track record delivering LRV, metro, subway, or other passenger-rail vehicle projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct, coordinate, and manage LRV design and manufacturing activities in collaboration with project management and multidisciplinary engineering teams in South Korea.
  • Work closely with the Edmonton-based Integration Manager and project stakeholders to ensure effective technical integration across the project.
  • Provide engineering leadership and technical direction throughout the design, manufacturing, testing, delivery, and project closeout phases.
  • Ensure LRV engineering activities comply with contractual, safety, quality, environmental, reliability, and lifecycle-performance requirements.
  • Review and provide technical direction on engineering deliverables, including drawings, schematics, interface control documents, safety documentation, manuals, training materials, test reports, and other technical submittals.
  • Authenticate engineering documentation in accordance with applicable APEGA requirements and professional engineering standards.
  • Oversee and support the project's RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety) activities.
  • Coordinate engineering interfaces between vehicle systems, subsystems, manufacturing, testing, quality, safety, and project management functions.
  • Review and implement the Design Quality Management Plan (DQMP), Manufacturing Quality Management Plan (MQMP), inspection plans, and related quality processes.
  • Support technical issue resolution throughout the project, including root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and FRACAS (Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System) activities.
  • Ensure appropriate document-control processes are established and maintained for engineering and manufacturing deliverables.
  • Support project closeout activities and ensure all required engineering and manufacturing documentation is complete and properly controlled.
  • Liaise with the client, suppliers, engineering teams, manufacturing personnel, project management, and other key stakeholders to maintain technical alignment.
  • Participate in design reviews, manufacturing reviews, testing activities, technical meetings, inspections, and other project activities as required.
  • Travel regularly to Hyundai Rotem facilities in South Korea to oversee, support, and participate in LRV design and manufacturing activities.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license with APEGA, or a Professional Engineer license from another Canadian province/territory that is eligible for interprovincial mobility and APEGA registration.
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in rolling stock design and manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience working on LRV, metro/subway, intercity passenger rail, or comparable rolling stock projects.
  • Direct experience in a similar engineering leadership role on at least two comparable rolling stock projects within the past 10 years.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large, multidisciplinary engineering and design teams on major rolling-stock supply contracts.
  • Strong understanding of train-level engineering, vehicle integration, design, manufacturing, testing, and technical documentation.
  • Experience working with international engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly to South Korea.
  • Ability to commit to the full duration of the project and meet project requirements for both virtual and in-person meetings.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong background in RAMS engineering and safety-critical railway systems.
  • Experience with railway vehicle quality-management systems and manufacturing quality processes.
  • Experience developing or implementing Design Quality Management Plans (DQMPs) and Manufacturing Quality Management Plans (MQMPs).
