Based out of the Powell Service Division Edmonton (PSD) location, the Lead Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and testing electrical systems and equipment. They oversee projects, provide technical expertise, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. They may also collaborate with other engineers and professionals to solve complex electrical problems, conduct research, and implement innovative solutions. The Lead Electrical Engineer typically has extensive experience in electrical engineering and may supervise and mentor junior engineers.

  • Design standard jobs independently.
  • Read and interpret customer job specifications.
  • Develop detailed Bills of Material for medium and low voltage switchgear.
  • Order materials.
  • Create drawings and transmit them to shop and customer.
  • Interface with project management, customer, and shop.
  • Direct designers in completing wiring diagrams and check diagrams completed by others.
  • Coordinate with Project Management throughout the project.
  • Maintain constant contact with production to answer questions and provide clarification on design changes.
  • Follow standard engineering processes and timelines.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously based on priority.
  • Provide technical assistance to sales, engineering, and inspection teams.
  • Assist with and resolve problems of other production engineers daily.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, ISO standards, safety rules, and vendor requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BSc Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or related field.
  • Minimum 4-8 years of engineering experience.
  • Advanced drafting / CAD skills.
  • Proficient with electrical design and circuitry.
  • Understanding of power systems and relay applications.

Skills, Abilities & Other Requirements

  • Basic computer skills (Oracle, Word, Excel).
  • Ability to learn Primavera P6 for project scheduling.
  • Ability to interpret customer specifications and provide technical feedback.
  • Proficiency in job reviews and technical document application for control schemes using AutoCAD.
  • Apply cost-effective techniques for engineered-to-order products.
  • Knowledge of NEC, ANSI / IEEE codes, and power system applications.
  • Ability to troubleshoot customer needs and problems.

Working & Environmental Conditions

  • Primarily office environment; some shop and field work with exposure to construction sites and active customer facilities.
  • Commitment to safety policies and practices.
  • Physical ability to handle tools, operate objects, and perform tasks as described.
