Who are we looking for?

Our Waterloo and/or GTA offices are seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to join the Engineering Design Organization (EDO). The Electrical Engineer will work on a broad spectrum of electrical aspects for multiple projects including new installations, upgrades, testing, commissioning, and construction support. The role requires a solid understanding of low and medium voltage power distribution, motor control, electrical system protection, standby power, detailed design, contract administration, and commissioning, specifically for water, wastewater, industrial, solid waste, and power generation plants.

The candidate must adapt quickly to different client standards, have experience with pursuits, mentor junior staff, develop team standards, and manage client relations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing electrical team standards and leading technical guidance on projects.
  • Assisting in proposal writing, design development, and report compilation.
  • Managing client relationships and supporting business development.
  • Leading project teams, conducting assessments, client workshops, and design presentations.
  • Overseeing electrical project phases, schedules, quality, and budgets.
  • Mentoring electrical staff and preparing detailed design packages, including utility interconnections, protection systems, power distribution, motor control, standby systems, instrumentation, building services, fire alarms, security, PA, UPS, grounding, and equipment layouts.
  • Reviewing design calculations, preparing contract documentation, and ensuring compliance with Canadian electrical codes and standards.
  • Supporting tendering and construction activities, including RFIs, shop review, site inspections, testing, and change management.
  • Coordinating with other disciplines and external vendors, ensuring technical quality and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications:

  • B.A.Sc. in Electrical Engineering
  • Registered member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario
  • 15-20+ years of experience in MV and LV electrical systems, including field instrumentation
  • Experience with large projects, supervising teams, and leading technical development
  • Knowledge of Canadian electrical standards and safety practices
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Experience with industrial projects and familiarity with Toronto and York Region projects is an asset
  • P.Eng. license in other provinces and PMP are assets
  • G class driver’s license
