Job description

Utilizing Revit to panelize drawings from various file sources, to produce engineering sets, shop drawings, and installation guides for each project.

Lead Designer

The Lead Designer will manage the Design Team while driving the technical execution of SIP projects using Revit, with a strong focus on nested Revit family creation, central model collaboration, structural design integration, and data-rich Revit schedules for manufacturing output. This role is critical in ensuring our SIP designs are accurate, efficient, and fabrication-ready.

ZS2 is leveraging material science and construction technology to cement a more sustainable and resilient future for the built environment. As a leader in magnesium cement (MgO) technology, we are innovating both its production and applications to decarbonize the construction industry.

Based in Calgary, Alberta, we are scaling sustainable technology into action with high-performance building materials, powering industry-leading projects and partnerships across North America. From manufacturing advanced materials to developing carbon-negative cement with carbon capture, utilization, and sequestration (CCUS) technology, we balance practical construction solutions with a strong focus on R&D.

We are addressing both the cause (failure to decarbonize) and the symptoms (climate-related destruction) to protect and de-risk the built environment. By prioritizing both environmental responsibility and real-world performance, we’re proving that climate tech and industry progress can go hand in hand.

With over $9 million awarded to commercialize our technology at scale, we are accelerating the transition to a resilient and low-carbon industry. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and are inspired by purpose-driven work, you’ll find your place with our TechCrew.

At ZS2, you’ll join a fast-growing, entrepreneurial team of problem-solvers—engineers passionate about the environment, marketers allergic to greenwashing, and researchers executing actionable decarbonization. Collaboration is at our core, with interdepartmental teams tackling some of the most pressing challenges in climate and construction.

Responsibilities :

  • Manage the Design Team, including approving days off, assigning projects, and managing the Revit Template and Design Guidelines and Standards.
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager Lead to schedule the design phases of projects to ensure they are completed within set timelines and project milestones are met.
  • Develop and implement advanced strategies for the creation and management of Revit families, with a strong emphasis on nested, parametric components that support manufacturing workflows.
  • Design and maintain Revit schedules to automatically extract key manufacturing data such as dimensions, material types, areas, volumes, bale counts, and fastener counts directly from the model.
  • Work with external specialists andautomation partners to streamline Revit workflows, enhance data-rich modeling, and improve accuracy in material takeoffs and shop drawings.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of Revit models and drawing sets to ensure design accuracy, consistency, and adherence to internal and industry standards.
  • Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and production teams to address design-related challenges and ensure smooth communication throughout the design-to-manufacturing process.
  • Interpret architectural designs and integrate SIP components seamlessly, applying structural load considerations to ensure accurate and code-compliant wall, floor, roof, and connection detailing.
  • Generate detailed drawing packages, including Geometric Sets, Engineering Sets, Manufacturing Sets, Installation Sets, and all documentation required for panel production.
  • Stay up to date with SIP technologies, Revit advancements, and best practices to improve team productivity, design quality, and standardization.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience working with Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) in design or manufacturing environments.
  • Expert knowledge of Autodesk Revit, especially in nested family creation, shared parameters, and automated detailing workflows.
  • Deep understanding of Revit scheduling tools for extracting manufacturing data from models.
  • Demonstrated experience in central model collaboration within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Solid foundation in structural design principles and how they apply to SIP assemblies.
  • Experience leading or supervising design teams and managing project workflows.
  • High attention to detail and a proactive approach to quality control in BIM.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
