Job summary

Aramark is seeking a Cook 1 to join the Dal Food Services team at Dalhousie University Agriculture in Truro. The role involves cooking to standard recipes, supervising staff when needed, and maintaining strict food safety and sanitation practices.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of culinary experience, large-batch cooking skills, and a Journeyman or Red Seal certification. WHMIS and Food Safe credentials are assets; strong teamwork and time-management abilities are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years culinary experience
• Experience with large quantity batch cooking
• Journeyman or Red Seal Certification in the Cook trade or equivalent
• Experience in leadership role is an asset
• WHMIS and Food Safe certifications are assets
• Additional certification may be required by work location
• Skilled in task prioritization and time management
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, team player

Responsibilities

• Trains and guides staff on duties, food safety, sanitation, and cooking methods
• Cooks and prepares food following production guidelines and recipes
• Sets up workstation with ingredients and equipment
• Prepares ingredients by measuring, weighing, chopping, and peeling
• Safely uses knives and food utensils
• Operates ovens, stoves, slicers, and mixers
• Bakes, roasts, broils, steams, and uses diverse cooking methods
• Garnishes and portions food according to guidelines
• Stores food per safety policies
• Cleans and sanitizes work areas and equipment
• Maintains excellent customer service and a positive attitude
• Follows Aramark safety policies and protects assets
