Job summary

Aramark is seeking a Cook for Dalhousie University’s Dal Food Services team. You will craft meals on diverse menus, follow production guidelines, and explore new flavors while maintaining high food-safety standards.

You’ll work at a campus setting with opportunities to contribute to creative collaborations. Ideal candidates have 3+ years of culinary experience in institutional environments and pursue Journeyman or Red Seal certification.

Qualifications

• 3+ years culinary experience preferably in institutional environments such as hospitals, higher education, or correctional facilities.
• Experience with large quantity batch cooking is an asset.
• Working towards Journeyman or Red Seal Certification in the Cook trade or equivalent is an asset.
• Valid WHMIS and Food Safe (Basic or Advanced); First Aid Certification is an asset.
• Knowledge of upholding high standards of food safety and hygiene.
• Ability to work effectively both supervised and unsupervised.

Responsibilities

• Cooks and prepare a variety of food according to production guidelines and standardized recipes.
• Sets up workstation with all needed ingredients and equipment.
• Prepares ingredients by measuring, weighing, mixing, chopping, trimming, and peeling food items.
• Safely uses a variety of utensils including knives.
• Operates equipment such as ovens, stoves, slicers, mixers, etc.
• Bakes, roasts, broils, steams, and uses various cooking methods on meat, vegetables, and other foods.
• Arranges, garnishes, and portions food according to guidelines; stores food per safety policies.
• Cleans and sanitizes work areas, equipment, and utensils.
• Maintains excellent customer service and positive demeanor toward guests and staff.
• Adheres to Aramark safety policies and procedures including accurate food safety and sanitation.

This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
