Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is recruiting a Charge Nurse in Orthopaedics and Trauma at The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The role focuses on delivering safe, patient-centered care, leading a multidisciplinary team, and developing high standards of practice in a busy acute setting.

You will deputise for the Senior Charge Nurse, oversee day-to-day ward operations, and drive service improvements while supporting staff development and recruitment efforts.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with current NMC registration and significant post‑registration nursing experience.
• Significant experience in an acute orthopaedic environment.
• Commitment to lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and support others.
• Strong clinical knowledge and time-management in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide visible clinical leadership and support patient care delivery.
• Deputise for the Senior Charge Nurse and oversee ward operations.
• Plan and evaluate programmes of care for orthopaedic patients.
• Lead and supervise registered and support staff to maintain high standards.
• Collaborate with MDT to coordinate patient care from admission to discharge.
• Support recruitment, staff development, audits and service improvements.
• Manage ward resources including staffing, equipment, and medicines.
