Overview

Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) has two open LBS/ESL Instructor positions (TR Leger Instructor) to provide instruction to small groups of adult learners in programs such as ESL, LBS, LINC, and FSL, under supervision of the Regional Manager of Literacy and Language Services. The instructor collaborates with the Manager or Team Leader to deliver program assignments and ensures programming aligns with applicable Ministry and Board requirements.

The position is covered under the UCDSB/CUPE collective agreement. For employment information including entitlements, pay, staffing, job protection, union security and dues, view the agreement on our external site.

Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction to small groups of adult learners in specified program areas (ESL, LBS, LINC, FSL) following established assessment standards.
  • Consult with the Manager or Team Leader to deliver program assignments.
  • Work within a team environment to ensure that appropriate programming is delivered according to Ministry and Board requirements.
  • Participate in the selection process and ensure eligibility criteria are met for program delivery.
Qualifications and Experience

General qualification: Possess a three-year university degree or a three-year college diploma with a concentration in education, social work, sociology, psychology, linguistics, applied languages, or related field. Familiarity with community support agencies related to adult, family or employment issues is preferred.

LBS Instructor: A minimum of 2 years of experience in adult literacy delivery is required. Related employment or volunteer experience with adults in teaching, social work, or health services is an asset. Adult Education or Literacy Practitioner certification is an asset. A combination of education and experience may be considered.

UCDSB requires your current and two most recent direct supervisors. If your experience is in a day-to-day casual capacity, list the length of time you worked for that supervisor and indicate whether the assignment was casual day-to-day or in a long-term occasional capacity. The UCDSB does not accept colleagues or personal references.

Selection Process

The UCDSB selection process includes a review of required qualifications, an interview and assessment process, and reference checks. All employment offers are conditional on candidates providing a valid criminal record check for the vulnerable sector.
