Job summary

ALS is seeking a Layout Clerk to efficiently process incoming samples into the analysis stream. You will organize samples, verify client information, and input data into lab systems, while working independently and in a team to deliver quality service.

Responsibilities include coordinating daily sample reception activities, acting as the primary contact for samples, and ensuring priority based on holding times. Flexibility for shifts and a strong client focus are required.

Qualifications

  • Good English communication skills (auditory, verbal, written, reading).
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Accurate and efficient data entry.
  • Well organized with ability to meet deadlines.

  • Knowledge from high school science or basic lab safety is a plus.

  • Ensures high level of customer service in interactions with clients and couriers.
  • Performs duties of the Sample Receipt Clerk as required.
  • Backup Login Clerk with required login training.
  • Follow procedures to ensure analytical quality and safety.
  • Other duties as assigned.

About the Position:

The Layout Clerk is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of incoming samples into the analysis stream. The priority will be to receive and organize samples, verify client information, and enter pertinent information into the laboratory data systems. You will be working independently and in a team environment, with an emphasis on providing quality and efficient service to clients.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates the day-to-day activities of the sample reception/layout clerks;
  • Acts as the primary point of contact regarding sample reception for the lab staff and Account Managers for questions regarding samples and client submissions;
  • Coordinates all of the incoming work and directs organizational priority based on holding times, rush TAT, etc.;
  • Coordinates any subcontract samples that need delivery to Shipping on a daily basis;
  • Ensures a high level of customer service in all interactions with clients and couriers;
  • Carries out all duties of the Sample Receipt Clerk as required (see below for details);
  • Act as a backup Login Clerk - Login training required:
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Good English communication skills required (auditory, verbal, written, and reading);
  • Basic user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook), with basic computer skills;
  • Accurate and efficient data entry skills;
  • Well organized, with the ability to meet strict deadlines;
  • Process oriented, with the ability to critically think in ambiguous situations;
  • Work independently and as part of a team;
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks as required;
  • Commitment to excellence and a client-focused attitude.
Required Qualifications:
  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required;
  • Some experience working in a fast-paced, production, and/or preparation environment;
  • Knowledge from high school science courses and/or basic laboratory safety is an asset;
  • Experience working with chemicals or in a laboratory setting (ex. school) is an asset, but not required.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs./23 kg on a regular basis and carry for short distances;
  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
  • Ability to stand for up to a full shift;
  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
  • You may be exposed to unpleasant fumes;
  • Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends
